Happy Birthday from the Flower Shop & an Important Reminder

Flower Shop is one of the most versatile new stamp sets in the 2013-2014 Annual Catalog – and it has a coordinating punch to boot.  There are some tricks to using the punch that I want so share with you, but first, I want to share a birthday card I made with the set:Flower Shop, Teeny Tiny Wishes, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders:

  • Core’dinations revisited.  Earlier this week, I shared a card I made with Core’dinations cardstock (see it here).  I’m using it again here because I am really starting to love the appeal created by the embossed and sanded cardstock.  When you buy a set of Core’dinations Cardstock (and I know you will), make sure you add a Stampin’ Sanding Block (#129367, $3.95) and a Core’dinations Dust Buddy (#129366, $2.50).
  • Using the Pansy Punch.  Don’t let this adorable, little flower punch fool you.  It’s a tricky little guy.  These petals are not exactly the same all the way around, so the punch petals are not uniform.  You really have to line up the petals with the punch.  My first go-round with this punch was frustrating because I couldn’t get it all lined up.  Argh.  Then I learned the trick:  The image feeds into the punch in the direction the stamp is shown on the clear images.  With a little work upfront, you can save yourself a lot of frustration.  Make sure you accurately line up the rubber stamps with the clear images when you assemble your stamps.
  • Old Accessories are Still Brand New.  As much as I try to forget them (you know how I feel about anything with glitter), don’t forget about the accessories in the new catalog that aren’t brand new – they can still be exciting.  🙂  The Real Red glimmer brad adds a wonderful touch to the center of the pansy – they were made for each other.

Stamp Sets: Flower Shop, Teeny Tiny Wishes  Inks: Jet Black StazOn  Papers: Core’dinations Cardstock (Brights), Real Red, Basic Black, Whisper White  Accessories:  Pansy Punch, Ovals Collection Framelits, Labels Collection Framelits, 3/8″ Glimmer Brads (brights)

  1. Very nice Birthday card! You’ve punched well, I see the white cs all around your flower so you’ve hit the sweet spot!

  2. What a lovely card Brian. I’ve just ordered the chevron embossing folder from my demo here in England and can’t wait to use it with some core’dinations cardstock. Real red is yummy and the two tone effect works so well with the chevron embossing folder. (You forgot to list it in Accessories so I am highlighting it for you!!!! Will let you off as it’s the weekend!). You’ve made me realise I absolutely NEED to order glimmer brads next time too…

Black and white is always classy, but add red and it is elevated to the perfect color pop for a birthday!! I just made a card last night with the little house from the Sweetly Framed Hostess set (thanks again Pam & Brian for the idea!!!) for my friend’s housewarming today, and I used the Chevron embossing folder… & I just received the Pansy bundle but have not had time to bust it out yet… I would not have thought to combine these two, but lo and behold, I know what my next card needs to include! Thank you for the clever inspiration!! 🙂

  4. Cute card …this bundle set is on my next order . There are other stamps that are tricky to line up with the punch also . I have used a black Sharpie to place a dot on the top of the stamp that shows through the acrylic block to show me where to line up the punch . Sure does save time and frustration . I have used pencil dots on the already stamped image to help line up if I am using a wood block stamp . And those little glittery brads are just the right touch for a card sometimes . I don`t believe I would use one on a sympathy card but. to each his own…. just saying .

  5. Thanks for the tip, Brian. It can be frustrating to try to line up the stamped image with the punch sometimes. Your card is awesome!! I love the look of the Core’dination CS and this EF will be in my July or August order. I have the glimmer brads and they are beautiful, they add a touch of sparkle to any card.

  6. Love this card! It contains lots of good ideas. Colors are perfect for GA fans!

  7. A fab bday card! Love the cardstock colors together, flower and great touch with glitter on the brad!

  8. Another fabulous card, with great colors…I need to buy more Co’ordinations card stock…your subtle accent ( okay it really is a focal point!) is what makes this card with the yummy flowers..will be playing with them today as I work on my convention swaps…thanks for the tips…hope I don’t struggle too much! Enjoy the weekend!

  9. Thank you so much for the tips on this punch! It would have totally annoyed the stew out of me if I did not have a heads up. I am so new to your blog that I must be the only one who does not know how you feel about glitter…do tell! 🙂
Thanks for sharing a great card and have a great weekend!

  10. Wow! I love this card! Thanks, Brian!

  11. me too !! thanks Brian !!

  12. Thanks for the 911…lol…on the Pansy punch issue. I have not opened mine yet, but my friend has and wanted to throw it across the room. I calmed her down and then messed with it and found out it had to be turned….at least 20 times…..lol….before I finally got it.

So, now when I put mine together, I’ll line mine up for easier use.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
