Q: What’s black and white and green? A: A soccer ball with a stomach flu.
AHAHAHAHAHA. OOOOOOOH! YEEEEHHHHHEEEEHHHH! You won’t belive this, but I just made that up. All by myself. OK, so I know you believe me because it wasn’t particularly funny at all. In fact, if you want to put a hault to everyone’s fun at any party, CASE my joke. If it’s midnight, and you just want everyone to leave the birthday party you are hosting at your house? Stand up and ask, “What’s black and white and green?” You’re welcome.
Today I have made a clean and fun card that’s perfect for the young sports fanatic. I used some new and unexpected products to complete this look, and I’ll share those a little later on. First, here’s my card:
And here’s the Mojo Monday sketch by Julee Tilman that inspired my card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
As I said earlier in this post, I used some unique and unexpected products to make this card. Here’s some of them:
- Banner from the Thankful Tablescape Simply Created Kit. This really cool chalkboard banner is intended to be paired with the White Stampin’ Chalk Marker. While this would be a perfect way to write a child’s name (what child doesn’t like to see his or her name in writing?), I chose to emboss “Yippee-Skippee” with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I was accidentally heavy-handed with my Embossing Buddy, but that’s fine – it adds to the chalboard appeal, don’t you think?
- A Grassy Field. The real punch of color in this card is Gumball Green. Remember – what’s black and white and green? This is where that HYSTERICAL joke becomes so important. I added a band of Gumball Green Designer Series Paper Stack and accented it with the Tiny Wave Rotary Trimmer Blade. While this doesn’t put a patch of grass directly beneath the soccer ball, the chevron pattern and wavy edges are symbolic of grass.
- Envelope Punch Board. I know you expected the envelope punch here. What you might not have noticed is that my card front is 5″x7″. It’s neither a standard A2 card nor a square. The envelope punch board, though, makes it easy for me to create an envelope for this fun card. I used the rest of the piece of Designer Series Paper Stack, letting the chevrons run free. All these tiny chevron patterns might give you (or someone at the post office) a migraine, but it coordinates so well with the small strip of paper on the front of the card. Sorry for the headache.
Stamp sets: Yippee-Skippee, Great Sport, Simply Stars Inks: Basic Black, Crushed Curry Papers: Basic Black, Whisper White, 2012-2014 In Color Designer Series Paper Stack (Gumball Green), Gumball Green Accessories: White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Tiny Wave Rotary Trimmer Blade, Stampin’ Dimensionals

New Stamp Sets Released. Yesterday afternoon Stampin’ Up! introduced two (not to be confused with just one) photopolymer stamps sets – Greetings From and Map It Out. They are absolutely adorable sets – both are travel-themed or landmark-themed. I can’t wait to place my next order to snatch these up. Woo hoo! Click on either of the pictures below for a closer look at all of the images more closely.
Cute card and i really like the color combo. I am a bit curious as to what spark of creativity led you to do a card with a soccer ball.Is there something you are not telling us ? Are you a secret soccer player???? Is there something you are hiding ???
You are a riot Brian!!!! Your heavy-handed embossing technique makes the color combo of this card really pop!! The Chevrons look awesome and that little wave as a nod to a grassy field works SO well!!! No headaches here… TFS & LOL!!! 🙂
Brian, I am recovering from a total knee replacement, and you are keeping me entertained daily from your marvelous creations! I enjoyed meeting you this summer at convention. Do you remember “are we there yet?”…fond memories!
The heavy handed embossing looks great! Love the card and the unexpected elements! Have a great day! 🙂
Oh Brian, I love this card. My 8 year old granddaughter just started playing soccer and this card would be perfect for her, so I’m totally CASEing it!!!!! I love the way you embossed the banner and the awesome contrast of the green “field” behind the soccer ball. Thanks for sharing this great card.
Ha ha ha ha!!! Can’t wait to use that joke and can’t wait to make the card for my niece who plays soccer for Salve Regina! : )
It’s all in details and you’ve hit the nail on the head. Such a fun card. Very crisp looking.

Great card Brian! I love the green and black color combination and the stars give the white space a little pop. Thanks for sharing!
Any card using “Yippee Skippee” is a winner for me! Like the card with or without the soccer ball! Nice clean colors and design. Another winner!
You hit another field goal with this one Brian. I absolutely love the color combo’s. Gumball Green has become one of my favorites but I never thought to pair it up with Crushed Curry! Brillaint!
So cute!!
Love that card. Definitely CASEing it (the card that is!). My grandson is an avid soccer player so this will be perfect. I have to go take something for the migraine now…. LOL. Great card!
Oh my goodness … this is just TOO CUTE! I love the black, white, and green! Thanks, Brian, for the “joke”, too!
Cool card! I just ordered the Map set last night & can’t wait to use it. The joke? Not one of your best, but I think you used up the effort in the card…
