If you’ve been following my posts for the past week, then you already know that I had an amazing weekend. Justin Krieger came into town on Thursday, we went zip lining on Friday (see picture here) and we made cards in the Fungeon on Saturday. And we ate some great meals in between. Could there be a more perfect itinerary? Justin was also kind enough to help me reposition some furniture in my stamping space so that I can (hopefully) stay organized. 🙂 Alas, Monday has arrived, and I’m sharing my card for this week’s sketch challenge from The Paper Players. Here’s my card:
And here’s Sandy Mathis’ sketch that inspired my card:Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Color choices. The color choices for this card were pre-selected for me by this beautifully striped piece of paper from Season of Style Designer Series Paper. The largest stripes in this design are Old Olive and Crumb Cake, so I decided to “ramp up” the Cherry Cobbler and Whisper White on the rest of the card. I always love when I am able to create a border with Whisper White – the two pieces in the center of the card are adhered to a piece of Whisper White card stock – it makes for such a clean accent on a clean look.
- The cutest medallion ever. When I set out to make a holiday-themed card, I went straight for this Very Merry scallop stamp from Verry Merry Tags. I really like how all the pieces came together. I had two goals when I started – (1) to avoid scallop-on-scallop layers and (2) to add only a hint of Old Olive. Here’s how I built this medallion (from the inside out):
- Whisper White card stock punched with 7/8″ Scallop Circle punch (image stamped in Cherry Cobbler).
- Old Olive card stock punched with 1″ Circle punch.
- Whisper White card stock punched with 1-1/4″ Circle punch.
- Cherry Cobbler card stock punched with 1-3/4″ Scallop Circle punch.
- Crumb Cake Envelopes. Since I added no additional Crumb Cake to this card (it’s featured in the DSP stripes but nowhere else), I thought it’d be fun to accent the color with a Crumb Cake envelope. I cropped this same piece of DSP with the Envelope Liner Framelits and set it inside a Crumb Cake envelope. A Whisper White envelope would have worked well here, too, but I love the look of the Crumb Cake envelope.
“Very Merry” was sensibly accompanied by “and a Happy, Joyful, Bright New Year” from Petite Pairs to complete the sentiment and to fulfill the sketch element. Let’s all give a big “wahoo!” for Petite Pairs – always there for us.
Thanks for stopping by today!
Brian

New Photopolymer Stamp Sets. Last week Stampin’ Up! introduced two (not to be confused with just one) photopolymer stamps sets – Greetings From and Map It Out. Did you miss them? They are absolutely adorable sets – both are travel-themed or landmark-themed. Mine are on my way to me. Woo hoo! Click on either of the pictures below for a closer look at all of the images:
Sounds like you had a great weekend … as if zip-lining wasn’t enough, you guys spent quality time in the Fungeon AND ate some great meals, too. Care to share Justin’s furniture repositioning tips? Although I can’t move any furniture around to be more organized, I did try to reorganize my “clear” stamp sets yesterday to keep “like” sets together. I have to store them on the top of my paper cabinet for lack of space.
Your card today for the Paper Players challenge is fun … I like how you mounted the little scallop … mounting scallop on scallop doesn’t work for me, either. Your layers of two plain circles add the distance needed between them. You actually kicked it up a notch by using two circles! Always a set ahead, aren’t you? 😉
Thanks, Suzie! My weakness has been putting things away – my storage is all on the other side of the room. We moved some tables closer to my work space (now an L shape) so that tools (Big Shot, Framelits, inks, papers) are closer, making it easier to then use these things and also put them away. Yay!
hmmmm sounds great… Maybe some photos to share? I love a good organized space! 🙂
Yay Brian!! Excellent weekend and what a crisp & cheery card!! Very Merry is expertly layered & I love Crumb Cake envelopes too!! 🙂
Back to the daily grind…….UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Weekends fly by fast enough but when you have a special one planned it’s even quicker. Glad the two of you had fun. Your card is one that could be mass produced if you send out a lot of Christmas cards. That’s why I like it so much. Cherry Cobbler is my favorite of the red family. It brings richness to the card to go along with the cute medallion. Last year you a ton of Christmas card for a lady you met. Will she ask that task of you again this year I wonder? They were great cards.
Thank you Brian for sharing the organizational tips you and Justin came up with. I like the idea of having all of my cutting tools in one place, as of now, the Big Shot is on a table at the opposite side of my work area next to the paper storage bins. I have separated my Holiday stamp sets by season putting them in clear plastic boxes just to make room for the every day stamps I have and that has helped a lot.
The card you made for the Paper Players is very CAS but it’s also very beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
I like your envelope and the lining . It`s a break from the “Typical”. So glad you had a such a fun week end and thank you for sharing it with us . You know how nosy we are !!!
Happy Monday !
Love how you think out of the box with the crumb cake envelope. Having your tools closer to your workspace will make you more productive as well. Can’t wait to see what’s coming next.
We are building a new home and I’m getting to design a new Stamping Studio, so I’m all about organizing. More photos please. Better yet, a new video!
Have a blessed day.
You definitely have an eye for color Brian!
Have a great week,
Dawn in Maine
Beautiful CAS card and that envelope! You must be quite the expert now on using that punch board! not to mention the envelope framelits. Yes, we want photos/videos of your scrapping space. I keep organizing and re-organizing and moving things around when they are not where I expect them to be… it’s a constant battle, for now. So glad you guys had so much fun during your weekend and accomplished so much! WOW
I love your use of the crumb cake envelope and the matching card paper for the liner. I am in the process of trying some new organization in my stamping room. Lucky Gigi! Please let us know what you do in your new home. Brian, thanks for letting us all share your great time with Justin. You guys had your own founders weekend! It’s great how SU brings people from all over the world together. Thanks for your blog! Nancy B
Hi Brian:
For some reason I never remember to use that scalloped punch. Maybe if I print out this photo of your dynamic card and stick on my computer module I’ll remember to use it once in a while!
From Maine where fall has definitely arrived in all it’s glory,
Grace
so, when are you going to NYC? i think there are some interesting things to do there, or so i’ve been told. 😀
Great way to feature this fun paper, Brian! Love the crisp clean look of your card. So glad you had a great weekend hanging out with Justin! Thanks for joining us at The Paper Players!
So glad you and Justin had a great weekend, Brian. Love your take on my sketch, very clean and modern and festive! I like the contrasting envelope, too. Thanks for playing 🙂
Brian, ziplining… what a great way to kick off the weekend! As for your card, I love the tilted sentiment, it really echoes the stripes in the background. So glad you joined the Paper Players again this week
Jaydee
Love the clean design, Brian! Sounds like you had a fun visit with Justin, too. Can you both come over here and help me organize my craft room too? Thank you so much for joining us this week at the Paper Players! 🙂
