Halloween Candy Treats for The Paper Players

Doesn’t it seem like this year is going by very quickly?  It seems like I just posted ideas for Halloween candy treats.  About this time last year, I shared a tutorial for fun sour cream containers and little bags for candy, but it feels like it was yesterday.  That’s a lie!  It feels like a few months ago.  My point is this – I can’t believe it’s been a year.

The Paper Players have challenged us to create a Halloween Treat Holder.  You know what I do when The Paper Players issue a challenge, right?  I accept it, I embrace it and I love it.  It’s a three-step program for me every week.  🙂  Here’s my idea for a Halloween Candy Treat Holder in 2013 – mostly from the 2013 Holiday Catalog:Best of Halloween, Mini Muslin Bags, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

And here’s the challenge banner from Nance:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders:

  • Muslin Bags.  These little muslin bags are found in [what I would call] the Christmas section of the Holiday Catalog.  They are perfect, though, for little treats for little ones, don’t you think?  I inserted a piece of cardboard into the bag (to keep the ink from running through) and used a sponge dauber to add Pumpkin Pie ink to the bag.  I used the chevron background stencil from the Build a Banner Kit.  It was so easy to ink up this little bag.  Drop in some candies, tie the string and drop these little treat bags into their little treat bags.  They look very good lined up on a serving tray, too, if you want to give them away at a party or send them to school with the little ones. Build a Banner Simply Created Kit, Mini Muslin Bags, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Stencil Tips.  The Build a Banner Kit comes with some really great stencils that can be used for more than a banner.  A couple of weeks ago, I shared some tips for using the stencils in the Build a Banner Kit.  One of the most helpful tips (I learned from Justin Krieger) is to spray the back of the stencils with Easy-Tak, a repositionable spray glue, and to store them on a piece of wax paper.  You can see my original post by clicking here.
  • Layering the Sentiment.  I was really happy with how this sentiment stacked up.  The banner sits on an Apothecary Accents Framelit, which rests on a cutout from the Oval Collections Framelit.  I added a Pumpkin Pie Glimmer Brad (you read that correctly) and then a small strip of Basic Black on the end of the banner.Best of Halloween, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Candy Wraps.   These miniature candies are wrapped with a 1″ x 3″ strip of DSP.  I taped the strips on the other side.  So easy to really adda nice touch to an otherwise-ordinary candy gift.

  1. Fun and adorable! As usual – love how you manage to find “other” uses for tools and supplies.

  2. Wow, 4 tips today! Lol. Thanks for sharing. These are great.

  3. Love this bag and the covered nuggets! How did you get your tag (love the layers on that too) to stick to the bag? I haven’t purchased the muslin bags yet and was wondering.

    • Linda – I intended to add this comment but overlooked it – I suggest stapling the black oval to the bag (with the flat side of the staple on the inside of the bag) and then covering the staple with the Pumpkin Pie paper and then again with the Very Vanilla. Two staples in the center should hold it. These bags are small enough for a stapler to slide right in. I’m sure there’s fabric glue or something, but I’m not familiar with that area. 🙂

  4. So so cute!! I definitely want to get that banner kit! Great stencils to use for all sorts of projects. And that pumpkin glimmer brad is just perfect Brian! I’m ecstatic to see you embraced at least a little glitter. 🙂

  5. How do you make the candy wrappers? Do you just use them for regular nugget shaped candies? Is there a way to make them for packet type candies too?

  6. Really, really cute Brian! Wish I had some of those little muslin bags. Did you use classic ink on the bag? Somehow I thought you needed to use craft ink on fabric. Thanks for playing 🙂

    • I didn use classic ink. It stays on well and dries perfectly. Only downfall – you can’t wash it. I wouldn’t recommend this ink for t-shirts or clothing. Works fine for these little bags. 🙂

  7. Really great use of those stencils! I love the way your bag turned out. I will be trying that!

  8. What a fun treat and filled with chocolate! YUM! I’m so glad that my tip has helped! I love your project! Have a sweet day! 🙂

  9. That entire treat bag with treats is just too stinkin’ cute Brian! I absolutely love it!

  10. So adorable! TFS!
PS- I believe glimmer brads are part of any 3 step program….so congrats!

  11. Wow Brian , you did such a BEAUITIFUL job , love them !!!
Tfs …and thank you for my comment on me and my family …. Your so sweet
    Have a nice week
    Hugs frenchie

  12. Now I know what I am going to do with my muslin bags!!!! Thanks for the idea.

  13. Cute and simple….Love it! I have the muslin bags in my stash but haven’t had a chance to use them yet. If you don’t have the Build A Banner Kit for the cool stencil…..I was thinking you could use the Simply Scored Borders Plate. It has a ton of cool designs. May be a tad big size wise, but I thought it may work. Brian what do you think?

    • I would be afraid I would ruin my borders plate. These stencils are perfect for this (you’ll have to slide the borders plate down multiple times, I think, which could get messy), but give it a try. Let me know what you think.

  14. Love it Brian! Chevron looks great in pumpkin pie! I love chocolate but I may have to share this with my teammates! thanks for the fun ideas!

  15. So so cute….. and all those tips today! Bonus! How clever to cover the little nuggets.
Same question for the ink…. I had also used the black glitter on one I decorated with the Best of Halloween stamp set… but it seems the glitter is not quite staying on the bag when handled, not as well as it did on paper anyway. Suggestion?

    • Louise, I am not the right person to ask about glitter. 🙂 I wouldn’t expect it to stick to a rough surface because I don’t expect it to stick to paper. 🙂

  16. I can’t wait to try these muslin bags and stenciling. They are on my ‘wish list’ for later this month! I love the chevron patten on the bag and the layering. Very nicely done!

  17. Laurie Burns Gachewicz

All the elements you combined here work so well together Brian!! The fact that chocolate is involved as a bonus!! 🙂

  18. Super cute, Brian! Love the sponging on the bag–clever with the stencil–I thought you used the Chevron stamp. Love the simple but effective way you dressed up the nuggets! So glad you joined us at The Paper Players!

  19. Your Halloween treat bags are just adorable! Great job and you always do such a good job explaining the techniques and adding the pictures to do with the explanation is such a bonus. Thanks, Brian!
