A Whole Lot of Wonderful for the Paper Players

I loved my trip to Houston – I loved hanging out with my friends and meeting new ones, I loved seeing the staff from Stampin’ Up! who are always inspiring, and I loved seeing some of the new products that are on their way.  That said, there’s truly no place like home (I should trademark that phrase because it might be big someday).  Anyway, I’m getting settled back into the Fungeon after a week away, and this week’s Color Challenge from The Paper Players was a good stretch of my creative energy.  Check out this collection of colors from LeAnne Pugliese: Yikes!  My first response was that I had no chance of getting those colors onto a card, but I think I finally made them work.  Here’s what I came up with:

Vivid Vases, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PP178

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Snippy McSnips-a-lot.  I can’t look at this wonderful stamp set without wanting dreams of paper snipping – it just can’t happen.  I know there are other ways to decorate these vases and flowers (water coloring and painting), but I was excited to stamp and snip these images.  You know I love to snip!
  • Color Imbalance.  You know I love to have things balanced, right?  I knew the first and third flowers would be Primrose Petals and that the daffodil would be Crushed Curry.  With those already determined, there would be no way to balance the colors perfectly (pink, yellow, pink, yellow, pink).  I had to set my OCD’s aside and allow the flowers to be perfectly imbalanced in their color arrangement. Vivid Vases - Paper Snipping, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Odd-shaped card.  The front base of this card measures 5-1/2″ x 5″.  I started with a 5-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ square card but decided to trim it down a bit to best fit the image i had created.  Woo hoo!  Envelope Punch Board – here I come!

Stamp sets:  Vivid Vases  Papers:  Fresh Prints Designer Series Paper Stack, Primrose Petals, Crushed Curry, Coastal Cabana, Pear Pizzazz, Whisper White  Inks:  Jet Black StazOn  Accessories:  Ovals Collection Framelits, Crushed Curry Baker’s Twine (from Tag a Bag Accessory Kit), Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you enjoyed today’s project – and I hope you’ll check out the other projects at The Paper Players – they’re all great!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

  1. Awesome!! Love the paper snipped vases for sure & your colored flowers look so fun! Gotta love those gifts from Stampin’ Up!

  2. Challenging … I would have wanted alternating flower colors, too.
All your snipping must have gotten you over the OCD hump with the blossoms.
Very well done! I do like the baker’s twine tied as you did over the extended border on the left. It definitely caught my attention – in a pleasing way. Glad you are back creating in the Fungeon 🙂

  3. Well, once again, you showed off your amazing paper snipping abilities, not to mention your patience. This little vases are really pretty and fun to color, a simple stamp but it packs a punch. The Baker’s Twine wrapped like that adds a really pretty detail to the design, great card Brian, makes me long to see my daffodils and tulips finally peaking through the dirt as the first sign that Spring has arrived.

  4. Great card and you certainly have patience of a saint to snip like that.

  5. This is beautiful. I’m with you Brian, I like snippin’!

  6. Love it!! The patterned vases are perfect here!

  7. Great look ! I am not a big snipper (some but,not much ) but this is the first view of these vases that I have really liked . These vases are cute but, didn`t we have them before in another set ? You did a fun look and as always added interest to a paint by number set !

  8. Another great card. I do love the snipping for the vases. You are a creative guru!

  9. I really like this stamp Brian and you have brought it to life with your snipping. I always love a card with some dimension and you epitomize a true 3D artist!

  10. OMGoodness where to start! I LOVE this card! I love the how you snipped and made the vases to match the background. I love the decision on the imbalance (according to you!) of the color of the flowers. I think it’s perfectly balanced to the eye or at least mine. The Baker’s Twine off to the side just tops it off. This card is A WHOLE LOT OF WONDERFUL, just like you!

  11. Dear Mr. ◾Snippy McSnips-a-lot,
    You snip so well!!!!
My vases would be missing flower tops!
    Love the cheerful card!
Great day to you and yours,
    Sondra

  12. Snippy McSnips A Lot!!
You just crack me up, Brian!! And THIS is why I love to read your blog! That, and -oh, yeah – you’re really talented too!

  13. Oh Brian, I think the flower colors are fine…that little Pear Pizzazz leaf sticking out on the left balances them perfectly! I love your choice of background papers too! Awesome as usual! Thanks for playing with my colors this week!

  14. Love the colors, style, everything!

  15. I’m a stray viewer of your blog because I love your creations! I’m also down line demo of Mary Fish. I had to comment today because it surprised me that you had to go against your “OCD” tendencies with the flower color order (I have OCD tendencies too so I totally get it!) , but I’ve noticed that your sayings on many of your cards are off kilter…I mean tilted:). My OCD in me wants to straighten them:). Is there a reason to tilting your sayings? Just curious… Your humor and work are fun!

    • Ha! I determined early on that sentiments can be askew. I don’t want them to be slightly off-balance, though. They are either straight or intentionally crooked. That’s how I roll. 🙂

  16. Brian, I love this card and I love that Vivid Vases stamp, especially with the paper piecing technique! Terrific use of the colors, and I like how you repeated the wavy DSP in the background onto the vases. It’s always a pleasure to see you playing along with us at The Paper Players!

  17. A fun and sassy card with awesome snipping! Love it! Thanks for playing with The Paper Players!

  18. I am relatively new to card making and I have this stamp. Sounds like a silly question but is snipping what it sounds like? Somehow you trace the image on to the paper and cut it out? Glue over the stamp?
