Simple Saturday: Someone Who Changes Everything

Welcome to Simple Saturday!  Simple Saturday is when I share super-simple projects that don’t lack the gorgeousness of complicated projects – OH! and I do it all on a Saturday.  Brilliant, huh?  Anyhow, welcome.  Today’s project is not only super-simple (Stampin’ Up! does all the gorgeous background work for us here), but it’s also a sneak peek at See Ya Later, one of the awesome stamp sets that you can earn during Sale-a-Bration.  Here’s my card: See Ya Later, Happy Watercolor, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Wonderful Watercoloring.  Don’t you love how I created such a gorgeous Daffodil Delight and Crushed Curry watercolored background?  And what about the really cool swipe of ink behind the sentiment?  I know, I know.  By now, the cat’s out of the bag – by now, you’ve seen the Occasions Catalog and have seen Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper and Happy Watercolor stamp set.  Stampin’ Up! has done all the work for us – so we can make cards that look amazing but that are easy to pull together.  Woo hoo!  The paper is pre-printed, and the swipe of ink is a stamp.  Case solved.
  • Color Combination.  My starting point for this card was the Daffodil Delight and Crushed Curry watercolored background.  While the other pieces of this Designer Series Paper incorporate Gumball Green, Island Indigo, Smoky Slate and Tangerine Tango, I wanted to really highlight the brightness of the yellows with a deep, rich color.  Elegant Eggplant felt like the right choice.  It serves as a perfect backdrop to really let the yellows pop.
  • The Perfect Fit.  I just love this sentiment – in fact, all of the sentiments in Sale-a-Brations’ See Ya Later stamp set are great (I’ve already shared one here), so you don’t want to miss out.  I tried every shapes (a variety of framelits and punches) to get the perfect shape for this sentiment.  In the end, the simple circle was the perfect way to highlight this sentiment.  Why complicate things when the simple circle is just sitting there, waiting to be used?

Stamp sets:  See Ya Later (Sale-a-Bration), Happy Watercolor  Papers:  Elegant Eggplant, Whisper White, Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper  Inks:  Elegant Eggplant, Daffodil Delight  Accessories:  Circles Collection Framelits, 2-1/2″ Circle punch, Small Heart punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals

So, what do you think about this Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper?  Do you love it as much as I do?  If you haven’t seen it all, you should definitely check it out.  I have to “spread the love” around all the new papers, but there will definitely be more Watercolor Wonder to come.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

  1. Pretty and cute ! I think it`s the way it`s coming through but, I am seeing DD and Blue Point ! I thought I was off when you mentioned Island Indigo but, Elegant Egg Plant really got me ??? I like yellow and blue cards a lot ! They always look fresh and happy . Great sentiment !

  2. Lovely and so colorful, Daffodil Delight is a color that shouts Spring loud and clear!! Egg Plant is rich and deep and it really make the softness of the Daffodil Delight shine.
    Love the sentiment, very sweet.

  3. Brian Just love the colors. What a great idea for Easter cards our new Designer series paper off so many possibilities.

  4. O M GEEEEEEEEEEE|
    I Love this Brian!!
You so never cease to amaze me!
(I would love 1/16 of yours and Justin’s creativity I swear)

  5. Rich and soft. Lovely combo. I have always liked Elegant Eggplant and pairing it with Watercolor DSP raises it to the next level. Would you share the dimensions of the DSP and eggplant layers?

    • Lisa, Thanks! The base is standard 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″. The white layer is 4″ x 5-1/4″, and the DSP layer is 3-1/4″ x 4-1/2″ with the Eggplant border around it just 1/8″ wider on either side. I hope that helps.

  6. The Watercolor Wonder DSP has got to be one of my favorite items in the Occasions Catalog. Matching the bright yellow(s) paper with the rich eggplant color lifts the eye and one’s spirit!! The swipe of color behind the sentiment brings the focus to what your card is expressing!! Thanks for sharing!

  7. The Elegant Eggplant came through as Elegant Eggplant on my monitor clearly so I saw it as purple not as blue. HHHMMMM,,,,,, Anyway, love the card Brian and yes, the watercolor paper is fabulous. I bypassed the See You Later set but the more I see it used the better I like it. I may have to rethink that one. Thanks for the beautiful card Brian, as always!

  8. Hmmm … shades of SU! yellow and Elegant Eggplant could take the place of yellow, black, and white for me! Thanks, Brian.

  9. I truly would love to hold hands with you for just about a minute!! Perhaps some of your talent would rub off on me! I LOVE your style of cards! This card just WOWed me as soon as the page loaded! It’s simple but yet it pops with the wonderful color combo! I love the DSP along with the way you used the watercolor stamp behind the sentiment! Love, love, love it!!! Oh and adding the little heart really topped it off! It’s a super simple card with a lot of wow!

  10. Thanks for sending this beautiful burst of Spring! I love it. Question: how did you make the outside of the envelope flap using DSP? Thanks!

    • Cassie, Thanks! I simply glued down the DSP to the envelope flap. I then flipped the flap over (where I could see the backside of it and trimmed around the edge. I’ve mailed several envelopes with this additional paper on the outside, and they arrive just fine. I like that it coordinates and makes the outside of the envelope special. 🙂

  11. I love the darkness of the elegant eggplant with the beautiful yellows. And you’re right, that sentiment is awesome! Great card!

  12. Great card. Yes, sometimes a circle is just best, something soothing and satisfying about circles!

  13. In a word Brian, this card is beautiful. I love the paper, absolutely gorgeous. Great job.
