Pucker Up, Buttercup!

Sometimes, it’s necessary to sit down and make a card JUST BECAUSE.  Today’s card is not for a sketch or color challenge.  It wasn’t designed for a special holiday or occasion.  This card was simply created because I wanted to combine two sentiments that sound cute together.  Do I need another reason to make a card?  🙂

Geometrical, Crazy Mixed-Up Love, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

 Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • A cute sentiment.  I’ve heard of “Fill Me Up, Buttercup!” and “Cheer Up, Buttercup,” but I think “Pucker Up, Buttercup” is infinitely cuter.  The combination of the lemon from Crazy, Mixed-Up Love and the sentiment from Geometrical seem (to me) like they were made for each other.  Don’t you agree?
  • Masking the sentiment.  The complete sentiment of the stamp in Island Indigo is “Cheer Up, Buttercup,” but I just wanted the word “Buttercup” so I needed to mask out the first two words.  While at Stampin’ Up!’s Leadership Conference in January, I watched as one of the presenters masked a stamp’s image by simply sticking a strip of tape over the part of the stamp that she didn’t want on the card.  The caveman steps are:  Tape stamp.  Ink image.  Peal tape.  Stamp paper.
  • Card balance.  It’s not like me to have a center piece on my card that isn’t layered with colored cardstock.  I wanted to try something different here.  I wanted to offset the center piece of cardstock with strips of colored cardstock.  This card is the result of a lot of playing around with shapes and colors.

  11. I think the offset stripes are really effective on this card. I don’t know how you come up with this stuff as I would not in a gazillion years think to do that and yet it really is what makes the central image stand out. I love the Pucker Up Buttercup saying. I used to say that to my girls all the time when they were tots. I gave it up when they became teens as their response was always a frustrated “really Mom?”! LOL

  12. Can’t stop singing now! Fab card, love how you mixed things up and still kept your trademark style!
