HOORAY! for Fab Friday

Hooray!  It’s Friday, and it’s time for another challenge for Fab Friday.  This is my second challenge with this wonderful design team.  FIVE colors were selected for this week’s color challenge – Basic Black, Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, Strawberry Slush and Whisper White.  What a brilliant combination!  Hooray!  Here’s my card:

Hip Hip Hooray, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri36

And here’s the banner from this week’s challenge:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • FIVE Colors.  Are you kidding me?!  I don’t think I’ve completed a challenge with FIVE colors before.  Luckily, all five of these colors are featured in Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper.  While I used the paper on this card, I didn’t rely on the paper to give me the colors.  Instead, I relied on my Stampin’ Write Markers and a great sentiment stamp from the Hip Hip Hooray Card Kit.
  • Painting Stamps with Markers.  I am impressed by stampers who professionally “paint” their stamps with Stampin’ Write Markers.  I am not one of those people – with several attempts, I can make it work, but never on the first try.  THIS stamp is perfect for “maker painting.”  Why?  Because the image has a rough texture, so it’s OK if I mess up a bit.
  • A Tinge of Fringe.  What stands out the most on this card?  Is it the colorful stamp?  Is it the panel of textured paper?  It’s the fringed circle that causes such a frenzy here.  A tinge of fringy frenzy?  Yes?  No? When you fringe a straight piece, you can get a super-clean fringe.  Fringing a circle, though, you have to be super-careful to snip different angles to yield different lengths of fringe.

Stamp sets:  Hip Hip Hooray (from the Hip Hip Hooray Kit)  Papers:  Bermuda Bay, Basic Black, Whisper White, Strawberry Slush, Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper  Inks:  Stampin’ Write Makers (Bermuda Bay, Strawberry Slush, Crushed Curry)  Accessories:  Arrows Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Circles Collection Framelits, 2-1/2″ Circle punch, Fringe Scissors, Regals Candy Dots (Crushed Curry), Stampin’ Dimensionals

So, what do you think about these colors?  Please check out the other design cards at Fab Friday.  You won’t be sorry!

  1. Super cute card Brian. I love the color combination and the designer paper pulls it all together. I think the fringe adds another dimension to the card, while the embossing adds texture. Awesome job

SUPER-FABULOUS fringe-tastically circular expealidocious-ness Brian!! You already know I love these colors and this was the first DSP I ordered from the ever so-Spring-y Everyday Occasions Catalog. Thank you Swatchbooks by Stamp with Brian!!! 9. Just love it. I agree that stamp is perfect with these colors and challenge. Looks super. 🙂

  10. I predominantly “stamp” my stamps using my markers. I have a much smaller collection of the ink pads, so I get more choices with my makers. And it makes it soooo much easier to have multiple colors on the stamp.

This is a really pretty card! I love the color combination and the fringe is adorable. Hopefully I’ll get a bit of mad money soon that I can use to purchase some of the new collections- because I’m in love with this DSP!
