Espresso with a Splash of Lime, Please

Simple Saturday has arrived!  The Card Concept offers us a wonderful color inspiration this week:  Lime, Espresso and White.  How modern!  How fresh!  I couldn’t wait to sit down and play with these colors.  Stampin’ Up! doesn’t have a current green that truly fits in the “lime” category, so I decided to…and I don’t normally do this…reach into my stash of retired products to make today’s card .  Here’s my card:

Yippee-Skippee, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, TCC5

And here’s this week’s challenge banner from The Card Concept:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Define the style.  As a part of the challenge at The Card Concept, the design team asks us to define the “style” of the card we design. While this week’s card has many layers, the overall design is clean.  With all the gorgeous patterns and color, the sentiment takes center stage.   I would classify this card as Clean and Layered.
  • Do I Detect an Accent?  The little Lucky Limeade flower is the perfect accent to this offset sentiment.  The pop of color in the middle of the brown piece helps to balance it all out.  To create this flower, I cropped a piece of cardstock with my Boho Blossoms punch.  I snipped toward the center at each indention of the scallop and then added a Candy Dot.  I’ve seen these on lots of cards lately, and I like them.  Cute, huh?Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Vivid and Rich Colors.  Don’t you just love the patterns on this Lucky Limeade piece of International Bazaar Designer Series Paper?  I mentioned before that it’s “retired”, but it’s actually still available in the Clearance Rack for just $4.39.  You can see it here.  I never used this paper when it was “current,” but I couldn’t stay away from it for this challenge.  I cannot stay away from White Embossing Powder.  I know you are getting bored of seeing it – it’s just so crisp and so clean.  The Lucky Limeade and the Early Espresso are stunning here, but the white (in my opinion) steals the show.  The white borders around the Designer Series Paper and sentiment frame these elements so that they stand out, too.

Stamps sets:  Yippee-Skippee  Papers:  Early Espresso, Whisper White, International Bazaar Designer Series Paper  Accessories:  White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Boho Blossoms punch, Neutrals Candy Dots (Early Espresso), Stampin’ Dimensionals

Thank you for stopping by today!

  3. Thanks again for the chance to win!

  4. Gasp! Retired product! It works for me. The little snipped Boho Blossom fits perfectly allowing the embossed sentiment to steal the ‘lime light’ Just love Simple Saturday!

  5. Okay, the card is gorgeous, but the title of this post is just plain GROSS! LOL. The colors are great together, and I love how you used them.

  6. I think you did a very good job with a not so appealing color combo (to me) but that`s why it`s a challenge . And that cute flower stole the show ! And who wouldn`t like that sentiment ? You get an A for adorable !

  7. Hmmm.. I take my Espresso plain, thank you very much! a splash of lime…..nah!!
Seriously though, I do love the combination of this colors on your card Brian, the sentiment is a sweet one and that little snipped flower makes it even sweeter.
The picture of this challenge looks fabulous!! I wouldn’t mind having one or two or even three of those delicious looking confections, they look like chocolate truffles to me!!! Yum!!

  8. HI Brian!

I just LOVE this color combination! It’s eye catching and easy to see how it could be used for either a masculine or feminine card. Throw a little four leaf clover on it and it makes for a fab St. Patty’s day card. It all works well together because you added the white to break up the contrast of the lime and espresso. Great, great, great – I love it.

  9. The first time I read your post, Brian, I totally missed the title of espresso with a splash of lime … but am laughing now … Maria, my husband can drink his plain, too! I need mine turned into cappuccino with lots of raw sugar 😉
I DO LOVE the Early Espresso and the Lucky Limeade a lot. And adding the International Bazaar DSP is the cherry on top! These all work so well together. The snipped flower is so cute! (Note to self, remember to use this punch and snip!)

  10. Flashback to 1967 with these colors, lol. But you made them look new and cute!
And I can say with strong feeling that probably NONE of your readers are sick of white embossing. When you are in “the zone”, go with it!
Loved your Facebook question about colors yesterday, BTW! So interesting to read where people’s color passions/choices lie.

  11. Your cards just amaze me each and every day! I LOVE THIS! It’s perfectly fine to reach back into those retired products from time to time as we all have our stashes of retired items that need to be revisited!! I did so for last weeks challenge at Freshly Made Sketches #125! Have a Super Saturday!! 🙂

  12. Brian your card is BEAUITIFUL and your room is well put together , I envy you !!
    Have a nice weekend
    Hugs and love frenchie

  13. Hey I’m retired and us retired critters need to get out once in a while! Great card! 🙂

  14. Can we start a campaign to bring back lucky limeade? Miss it! Your card shows how necessary it is …so bright and cheerful. Will be checking out that dsp.

  15. I don’t see the Lime CS in the clearance rack?

  16. Love this card. Since you have been embossing lately, I went back to it too! Love it!

  17. Love the little flower & how it’s all off center a bit. I was hoping for a new coffee recipe, though… Now, that might wake me up in the morning!

  18. When I read the title for today, I was ready to sit down and have some refreshing beverages. I just love this color combination. I too miss all the lighter, brighter greens that SU had — does anyone remember Green Galore? I can’t wait to see the next In-Colors group. Love your card, Brian! Simple, clean, and fun! Enjoy the weekend! Nancy B

  19. Gorgeous card and great use of the colors. I was *this close* to digging into my last remaining sheets of Lucky Limeade as well. I love your clean and layered style. The white embossing is just perfect.

LOVELOVELOVE this color combination!! Great card! TFS!

  22. Never thought this color combination would look so good! This is beautiful!

  23. A gorgeous clean and layered card Brian. I love the way the white embossing repeats the white in the DP. Also love that you have kept the focus on the sentiment even with a busy DP. Great proportions. Thank you so much for joining us at The Card Concept.

  24. Love the balance on this, the way you’ve made your white borders about the same thickness as the white lines in the dp. That little lime flower adds a perfect whimsical touch! Thanks for joining us at The Card Concept!

  25. Such a great layout, love the “framing”!
