Let’s Celebrate with Mojo Monday

I love the adorable sayings in the Sumpthin’ Sumpthin’ Stamp Set.  The coordinate so wonderfully with the A Little Sumpthin’ Sumpthin’ Gift Box Kit and with the Word Bubbles Framelits.  The sentiments are also great on their own.  From “Let’s Celebrate” and “Hooray! Hoorah!” to “A Little Sumpthin’ Sumpthin'” and “Surprise,” this set has a saying for every celebration.

Here’s a card I made with one of the sentiments from Sumpthin’ Sumpthin’ for this week’s Mojo Monday Challenge:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Melding Inspirations.  My initial inspiration for this challenge was the Mojo sketch.  Next, I was inspired to use the sentiment from Sumpthin’ Sumpthin’ – I just think the script is so pretty.  While we are celebrating with the sentiment, why not incorporate this spotted paper from Confetti Celebration Designer Series Paper?  Little banners followed short behind.  Woo hoo!  Card done.
  • Change of plans.  The final card is relatively close to how I imagined it when I sat down to make it.  Although my initial idea was to have a white background with two confetti DSP panels.  When I laid it all out, though, it was too much white, and the confetti paper was boring.  When I flipped the two, it all worked for me.  Still a lot of white, but there’s plenty else going on here.
  • Replacement.  The sketch calls for a ribbon across the middle of the card front.  I do love ribbon – the texture, the color, the added depth.  Sometimes I can’t make it work, though, on a clean card.   In place of the ribbon, I added two little banners, popping out of either side of the scallop circle.  I placed one of the banners and then lined up the second with a ruler across the back for the scallop.  Looks like one banner behind the scallop, huh?  Also, I placed the banners at the bottom of the scallop, centered under the word “celebrate,” rather than centered behind the scallop.

  4. I also love this pretty script and DSP! Great changes to the layout Brian.

  5. Cute and cute ! This is a very versatile card because you can use it for both genders and different events , I like that script a lot too ….it makes me happy ! I am presently working with this sketch to swap and I love how different everyone `s cards look using the same sketch. Fun!

  6. Once again, GREAT borders! : )

  7. I love this card! So simple, yet beautiful. I especially like how you lined up and cropped the banner to fit perfectly under the sentiment. I think it looks like it really “belongs” there. I too sometimes struggle to get ribbon to look right, this offers another added dimension, if ribbon doesn’t work.

  8. Very vibrant! Great choice of colors! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  9. Great use of this layout! Love it!

  10. I absolutely love it. This is a card I will definitaly case. Thanks Brian.

  11. Wow, swapping the place of the DSP is really impactful. So inspiring….glad I have the day off and can play in the rubber room today!

  12. Great interpretation of the MOJO Monday sketch. I never know how much “white space” is just right without adding Candy Dots or something else to fill it.

  13. Oh Brian – you Lord of the Layers you! What a happy, happy, happy card. That thin, thin layer around the DSP really does make it pop. This is one of the most fun cards I’ve seen in ages and, of course, it’s perfectly put together. I bow to you Oh Great Leader!

  14. Great card Brian and another awesome job.

  15. I know a lot of you won’t see this – but THANK YOU so much for always leaving such kind comments. I really appreciate reading each and every one of them. You inspire me to want to give you more. Thanks so much!

  16. What a cheerful card!! It makes me happy just to look at it! You are the card master….no, make that KING of CardmaKING!!

  17. Great card Brian! You really took the layout and ran. I love how you used the confetti paper to balance out the white, and to be honest, I don’t think there’s too much white at all. Because of the bright colors of everything else, it’s perfect! I often think I should try my hand at a challenge, just to step outside my box. I always worry that I won’t interpret the sketch properly, making my card not “right” for the challenge. Maybe one day…. because I sure have a good teacher… YOU! 🙂

  18. I really love it , I try to imagine how it looked at your first attempt before you flipt the white over and I think you are right – this is better. Love that you tell us that and make us think twice while we do our own cards, thank you ! Greetings, Anita

  19. you are definately a “star” with StampinUp! Have you ever thought of doing a weekend retreat? I would sign up in a minute if you did….

    • Awwww…thanks! I’ve been tossing around the idea for a while. I’ve had so much fun at the one-day events I have hosted. Looking into it…:)

  20. Michelle McDaniel

very cute!! I smile looking at it 😀

  21. ACK! ANOTHER dsp to love! i’m going to lose this battle and have to purchase not only the dsp, but the accompanying new InColors.

  22. I like the layout…the usual thing would be to have a white background so I suppose one could say you “thought outside the box”. Hooray for the fungeon. I am not crazy about ribbons (bows) for masculine cards and I don’t like paying extra postage so the double banner idea is a solution for both quirks of mine. Good job. Thank you.

  23. What a happy card! It just makes you smile 🙂

  24. I love that stamp set also, awesome take on the sketch. love that Confetti paper also

  25. Your creations are always so crisp and clean! Nice work!

  26. Love the use of negative “white” space!

  27. Cheerful and fabulous! Love those unexpected white panels amongst all the color!
