When I saw the sketch for this week’s Pals Paper Arts challenge, I immediately thought it resembled a decorated gift bag – so why pass up the opportunity to decorate one of Stampin’ Up!’s Polka Dot Tag a Bag Gift Bags? I love these little craft bags, so why not showcase them here? I simply couldn’t resist. Here’s my decorated bag:
Simple, but cute, huh? Here’s the sketch that inspired my Tag a Bag creation:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Color combinations. The base of this bag is kraft – super-close to Baked Brown Sugar. To accent this bag, I created a trio of banners in Baked Brown Sugar, Calypso Coral and Wild Wasabi. The birthday cake is stamped in Calypso Coral, surrounded by a Baked Brown Sugar circle and again by a Whisper White Scallop Circle. I tried a Calypso Coral and a Wild Wasabi, but the scallop really needed to be white to pop.
- Tie it up! The bag is wrapped with a band of 1-1/4″ Burlap Ribbon and 3/4″ Chevron Ribbon (Calypso Coral). I loosely attached the ribbon to the bag with Fast Fuse. Rather than piecing the thick ribbon together at a point, I let the ends of both ribbons hang off the right side of the bag. I clasped the two pieces with a wooden clothespin – an added bit of style on this bag.
- Size of these bags. These bags are small (about 5″ x 8-1/4″) – but sometimes that’s a good thing. To give you an idea of the size of these bags, this bag is packed with two embossing folders and a pack of Basic Jewel Rhinestones. A perfect gift, right?

Super cute bag.
Cute! The burlap ribbon is the perfect touch.
You make me laugh!!! The header for your post was the best…..just like you! Darn, I wish we lived closer……another hot day in the East Coast!
These bags are the cutest. I showcased them on my blog yesterday…made them for the crew of my son’s landscaping business for an Innovation Luncheon we put on for them. Inside were business card holders and business cards! : ) I love how you used the burlap ribbon and the little clothespin…as always, you’re full of great ideas Brian!
The bags sound small, but you got a lot of stuff in them. Love the clothespin! 🙂
You did bag it! Such a cute idea for the sketch this week. So glad you joined us!
Thank you for telling us what will fit inside of these cute bags. Sometimes numbers are hard to transfer in imagination as to “What will it hold “? I like the Chevron ribbon on top of the Burlap ribbon . Cute !
Another great idea! Thank you for sharing!
Oh my gosh! You are so smart and so creative! I love how you used the sketch for this awesome gift bag, Brian.

Hi Brian:
Only you would look at a card sketch and convert it into a gift bag! How DO you come up with this stuff? I am going to credit your Mom for giving you the genius gene! After all, she is the one responsible for you being here! THANK YOU MOM! Love the bag and if it fits all you say I can think of dozens of things to put into it. Great job, great gift bag and beautifully done (as always)!
Yes, a perfect gift and bag! How adorable!
Great take on a great sketch, love it!!! The Burlap ribbon and the Chevron ribbon are a fabulous detail but that little clothes pin…..oh, so super cute and a great way to close this bag of goodies. Who is this little gift for? Or did you just make this project to try the size of the bag? Well, what ever the reason, it’s a winner!!
Awesome gift bag with tags! And, just love the ribbon held to side with clothes pin! Well done, Brian…love it!
What a creative way to tackle the challenge, I love it. Another home run Brian .
