This week’s Fab Friday Challenge is a color challenge with five colors: Blackberry Bliss, Lost Lagoon, Mossy Meadow, Hello Honey and Tangelo Twist. Do you see the common theme between those five colors? Of course you do – they are the 2014-2016 In Colors, and they are divine.
Here’s my project for this week’s Fab Fri challenge:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Telling a Story. Everything about this card tells a story. While the image of the city skyline and the coordinating pattern are from Calling All Heroes, a fun and playful stamp set. It’s probably some old movie storyline, but when I look at the skyline I imagine someone who has moved to “the big city” and misses home. Everything seems so vast and empty, which makes the moon so much bigger and brighter. How many movies involve star-crossed lovers staring at the same moon?
- Color Blocking. The background of this card continues the story behind the city skyline. The reasons for the large blocks of Lost Lagoon and Mossy Meadow cardstock are two-fold: (1) they helped me to incorporate these two colors in this challenge and (2) the represent earth and sky. While the emptiness is intense at night when the city is all lit up and when the moon is set in the sky, it’s still there in the daytime when life goes on. One might not see all that at first look, but the story is there – all color-blocked for your viewing pleasure.
- Double Stack. The skyline is bordered with Tangelo Twist and then popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals. The Blackberry Bliss piece is also popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Since the base of the “moon” is glued to the skyline, the top of the moon needed to be attached to the Lost Lagoon panel – but it needed to be two dimensionals thick. I simply added two dimensionals, one stacked right on the other. Easy as pie.
Stamp sets: Calling All Heroes, Really Good Greetings Papers: Blackberry Bliss, Mossy Meadow, Tangelo Twist, Hello Honey, Lost Lagoon, Whisper White Inks: Tangelo Twist, Blackberry Bliss Accessories: 1-3/4″ Circle punch, Circles Collection Framelits, White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the FabFriday Challenge to check out the projects from the other Design Team Members.

I wish we were getting these photopolymers….. I love this set!! I love these colours!! And I especially love what you have done with them!!!!!
WOW ! This is not only a great card ,but what a description of color choices and story association ! This definitely has to go in the book !! Love it !! You truly made it a Fab Friday !!
BTW….I read your note in the comment section later yesterday ….I come back usually later in the day to peep in . Thank you , Mr. Sweetness !
I was eager to see your card this morning after your teaser on FB (?) yesterday with the skyscrapers! First, this card really points to the new InColors as linked to the Regal family for me. And I know I tend to lean towards the other three families. I do like the new InColors very much … they are just a lot for me to handle together on one card. That being said, your storyline “softens” them for me. And I am really impressed with the backdrop of Tangelo Twist dots you stamped SO well behind the skyline. At first I thought it must be DSP! Great card, Brian! Wow!
BTW, you do a lot of embossing. We all know how you feel about glitter, so doesn’t embossing powder bother you at all? I LOVE glitter, but EP is so fine, I do not like running my hand across my grid paper afterwards! I feel it and yet often can’t see it!
I used to use one of those trays for embossing, but am switching over to plastic ware containers! For “containment” … Happy Friday, Brian!
Thanks, Suzie. I don’t have a problem with Embossing Powders. I store them in sandwich containers and “apply” the EP over the container. I carefully walk to another part of my room where my Heat Tool is stored and heat the cardstock there. I guess I wouldn’t realize it if I had EP on my clothes (my biggest issue with glitter) so I wouldn’t feel like I’m polluting the world with EP. These colors ARE very regal – I love them for that. 🙂
You nailed that challenge Brian! Great card. : )
Hi Brian:
The minute I saw this card I thought of that movie with Tom Hanks – “You’ve Got Mail”. Great card and I do love the in colors all being on one card at one time. Nice, bright and it certainly creates big smiles here.
Brian, you always use stamp sets in the most creative ways! Love how you used this one as “miss you” card. I love this stamp set at first glance, but wasn’t sure what I would do with it…Great idea!
Brian, this card is stunning! The manner in which you used the new In Colors is phenomenal, especially the Tangelo Twist, IMHO. I was equally impressed by the story you wove to go along with your card. Your creativity has no limit, does it? Awesome job
Oh my goodness, you’ve got an awesome and inspiring imagination! You are amazing and it’s so much fun to see things through your eyes 🙂
Gorgeous card Brian, the skyline looks like it was snipped and attached to the background, really beautiful. The way you used each color of this challenge in such an amazing and creative way really speaks volumes about the kind of paper crafter you are. Truly fantastic card!!!!! Thank you for the gift you give to us every day.
WOW you did an amazing job of working with these 5 colors in one card! I absolutely LOVE these new colors but would never dream of using them all together, to me they just dont work.
Love this card – great colour blocking and fantastic layout. This is a really inspired use for this stamp set.
