Snip Tips – A New Video

You know I love to snip – some call it snipping, and others call it fussy cutting.  There’s something so calming about it, and it takes me to my happy place.  When I come across an image that needs to be snipped, I move to my comfortable chair in the Fungeon and smile as I snip away at the image.  Sometimes I snip right on the border of the image, and sometimes I snip the same distance away from the border to leave a little white space on the outside.  It depends on the image and the look I want to achieve.  I snipped the inside piece of Bloom for You yesterday – if you missed it, you can see it here.

Here’s a quick video I filmed that shares some of my tips and tricks for successful snipping.  All you need is a pair of paper snips and a willingness to go on a fun adventure.  Here’s my video:

I hope you find those tips helpful.  If you have questions or need snipping assistance, please let me know.

Thanks for stopping by today!  I enjoyed sharing with you.

  1. Brian, you are the Mr. Rogers of the snipping world! : )

  2. Well Brian, I’m not a snipping or fussy cutting fan, I wish there was a die or a punch for every pretty flower or cute animal but unfortunately there are just a few stamp sets that have either a matching die or punch so, I’ve snipped a few flowers from time to time but it’s a bit frustrating for me and that’s when this fabulous tips of yours will come in handy.
Thank you for this video, I’m sure all of us can benefit from it to make our fussy cutting a little more enjoyable and precise.

  3. Nice video, Brian! I too love to snip…nothing better than Stampin’ Up! Paper snips!

  4. Now when I hear someone is “Snippy” I will think of them differently ….thanks to you ! Great instructions and yes …you need to have some good scissors like the ones you are showing ! This was really really good for the beginning “Snipster” !

  5. Thank you for the great video Brian! I know that turning the paper and not the scissors is the secret to successful snipping, but my right hand can be such a control freak! I will practice some more! Thanks again!

  6. Always a pleasure seeing the ‘Master Snipster’s’ smiling face in your videos. Indeed a fantastic tip for novice paper crafter. Also it’s a good idea for me to watch and refresh my snipping skills. Even though you may know how to do the ‘technique’ there may be something new someone brings to the table.

  7. I think knowing how to “snip” properly is really important. Many of the dies and punches leave a small white edge around the image which you may or may not want on the card. In most cases I like having that edge there but once in a while I want the cut right to the edge of the image for a nice, clean look. I have learned over the years that it takes just a little bit of practice to become a good snipper but once you’ve got yourself trained to move the paper and not the scissors, it’s a piece of cake and Brian, I agree with you, snipping is very, very relaxing. Thanks for the video. Like Lisa says “Always a pleasure” seeing you.

  8. Your video and SU paper snips are Da Bomb!

  9. Hi Brian, thanks for a very helpful video. I’m one of those ” I love a bundle, I won’t have to butcher my image” people. I’m going to give snipping a try because your video made it less intimidating.

  14. What a wonderful way to start my day! A video from “the King”… a master at everything. Great tips on snipping; I also love to snip paper but to be honest, I’ve never paid much attention to how I do it. Your idea of moving the paper instead of the scissors is great! And something I’m going to watch for when I’m snipping as well. Thanks for all you do my friend! Hugs! 🙂

  15. Enjoyed your video, Snippy! I think I am going to make a trip up to Atlanta to do some decorating with those chairs behind you! Haha!

  16. I am a huge fan of fussy cutting! Always enjoy your videos, Brian.

  17. Lved the video, still not a snip person, give me dies please. LOL I need to remember to turn the paper, alot easier

  18. Such a fun video about snipping … I do love my punches and framelits, but there is definitely a certain amount of pride when one “snips” images! I do like the little bit of white around the punched or die-cut images and try to do that when I am “snipping” … I continue to work on perfecting that. Thank you for the great video, Brian! I will return to watch it as I hone in on my snipping skills! If only there were pillows in the background, I’d probably “hone in” faster 😉

  19. Boy, did I need to watch this. I have such a hard time because I am left-handed and position my hand in a weird position when cutting. I am going home tonight and practice, practice, practice. Thanks so much for the practical tips…or should I say “snips”.
