This week’s color challenge from Pals Paper Arts gives me a nice break from Halloween, Christmas and Thanksgiving to just make a super-sweet card that’s been dancing (literally) in the back of my mind for quite some time. I couldn’t imagine using Early Espresso, Calypso Coral and So Saffon in a Holiday-themed card (although I’m certain it can be done), so I made this card:
And here’s the PPA color combination that inspired my card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Masking the Stamp. The sentiment on this card is a portion of a sentiment in this Sweet Stuff stamp set. “Bee happy” coordinates with an adorable bumble bee from the stamp set, but I really didn’t want to go there – this ballerina was exactly what I wanted to use, so…I used the masking technique that I shared in a recent video (see that video here). Removing the second “e” allowed me to position the ballerina right where I wanted on the sentiment – she certainly is very happy.
- Repetition of Color Borders. I plan out my cards, carefully determining the layering that works best for my discerning eye. One thing that my eye really likes – a repetition of colors in layers. If you’ll notice, the order of the colors in the borders on the outside of the card mimic the order of the colors in the ovals.
- Lining it All Up – and Balancing it All Out. The ovals are “grounded” by the strip of Calypso Coral paper from the Subtles Designer Series Paper Stack. It just makes my eyes happy (my eyes are very demanding) when objects are attached in some way and not just floating in the middle of nowhere. To balance the card (remember the squint technique?), I added a soft and small flower in the top portion of the Calypso Coral band – balanced.

So cute! I have this stamp set and am looking for the perfect opportunity to use it. I will definitely CASE how you stamped the ballerina and the bee happy sentiment.
Love that sentiment paired with the cute ballerina! <3
Hi Brian, I love so many things about this card. The strip of DSP, the be (minus the e) and the flower are my favorites.
🙂
As always, perfect layers!
How cute is this little ballerina and how pretty she looks dancing on top of the word “happy”. I love the strip of Calypso Coral perfectly aligned with the So Saffron panel, looks really fabulous. Thank you for sharing.
O.M.G. this is so stinkin’ cute! You have outdown yourself!! (again!)
*outdone 🙂
HI Brian:
You’re card today is one of those rare cards that when you see it you just have to smile. The color combo is fabulous but that little smiling ballerina just steals your heart away. What a perfect card for my daughter’s little ballet students. I just love it.
Brian, love the way you used the colors and the layers! Such a delightful card. Thanks for showing the multiple use of a stamp by dropping the e. The card just gives your heart a lift and puts a smile on your face.
