Wow! Yesterday was amazing! I celebrated World Card Making Day with 48 Stampin’ Up! demonstrators and Donna Griffith (from Stampin’ Up!’s home office). What an amazing time! Pam and I have been planning this event for months, and it’s now over. I can’t imagine a day more fun than this one was.
The day was divided into holidays – we started with Halloween, moved on to Thanksgiving and ended with Christmas. We designed four make-and-takes and shared the tips and techniques during the appropriate holiday. Here’s the card we shared during the Thanksgiving segment of the day:
So, it’s not EXACTLY a Thanksgiving card, but the technique is super-cool, and the colors are definitely Fall-fantastic, so we went with it. 🙂
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Ink Blowing Technique. This is a super-fun card to make, mostly because of the fun technique. Add a couple of drops of reinker to a piece of Whisper White card stock and then use a straw to blow the ink all over the piece of card stock. It’s an oldie-but-goodie technique, and I was reintroduced to it last week by Friday Mashup. It’s best to place the reinker drops in one area, and then cover that area with an image or punch (in this case, the sentiment). Be prepared – this technique can “wind” you if you aren’t careful, so take your time breathing in and out while blowing your ink all over the place. 🙂
- Simple Structure. When you have a really cool background, the rest of the card can be super-simple. This card is, essentially, composed of a base, a panel and a sentiment. The structure is super simple to accommodate for the super-cool inkblot on the panel. Anything more complex would distract from the star of this card, don’t you think?
- Color Combination. I just love this color combination – Island Indigo is a perfect starting point. Early Espresso Pairs well with anything. Crushed Curry adds the needed lightness but keeps the regal richness that’s needed to complement the other colors. If you like this color combination, too, then you can save off this off:
Stamp Sets: Work of Art Papers: Island Indigo, Whisper White Inks: Early Espresso, Classic Ink Reinkers (Island Indigo, Early Espresso, Crushed Curry) Accessories: 2″ Circle punch, Circles Collection Framelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals, 3/4″ Chevron Ribbon (Island Indigo)

Beautiful card, Brian. I love the colors, the technique and tip about covering the spatter with the sentiment. I’ll have to try it. What a great way to celebrate WCMD.
I am so glad you had a great day Brian!
It was a great day all the way around! You and Pam did a wonderful job putting it all together!
Brian, I want to say thanks so much to you and Pam for a great event. I had a wonderful time and met so many great people. You can sign me up for your next World Card Making Day event now because I’ll definitely be there.
Ditto what everyone else said. It was a terrific day. Good friends, good projects, good fun!!!!
What a fun technique. Great card!
I love the card. We need reminders sometimes, to do the old “tried and true” techniques. Thanks for the reminder and the gorgeous card. As a demonstrator, I wish I could work with your impressive talent, and lived closer. Thanks so much for sharing your “awesomeness” with us every day!
Hi Brian:
It sounds like you had an amazing day. I’m sure preparing for it took a lot of time and planning and you are obviously extremely good at that. Everyone seems to have had a lot of fun which is certainly the point of the day. The card is fabulous. Bright, cheerful and, the best part, no two cards alike. That’s pretty tough to accomplish with 50 people. LOL Great job as always.
I know I’m a Novice ….. But what is Reinker? Cool Card and technique. Enjoy your Blog and Humor.
Hey Brenda! Reinkers are little bottles of ink sold in all stamp pad colors so you can add more ink to well-used ink pads. They are $2.95 each.
I really feel dumb now. Is it the same as the refill bottles I get from SU. Also with this process could you use Alcohol refills and use Water Color paper. Thanks I read your Blog bright and early each AM before getting ready for work ( even before going to bathroom. ) Did I mention I’m a dedicated Brian Blogger.
Brenda, Yes. They are the same. No need to feel dumb about it at all. Glad I could clear it up. Thanks for reading my blog (even before the bathroom) each morning. 🙂
Love this – fun and imaginative!
I always love getting together with other demonstrators to share and learn. Brian and Pam really went all out for us. The projects and demonstrations were terrific. Donna Griffith showed us products from the upcoming Holiday Supplement catalog and answered lots of our questions about a variety of subjects. What a wonderful day it was!
This was a great technique, huh? I loved doing it for the Friday Mashup last week. I bet it was fun for everyone to do at your event. So happy you spent the day with your stampin’ buddies:)
Love the look on this card. Just one question, do you do each color individually or drip them all at once and blow? Thanks
Two drops of one color. Blow. Two drops of another color. Blow. 🙂
Thanks Brian. BTW – I owe you a nickel, I squinted on a sympathy card yesterday and came up with perfect placement for 3 candy dots!
Liz, according to the patent agreement, you can gather five squints before mailing the nickel. Thanks!
This weekend was so much fun!!!
Fun post, fun card, fun weekend! Loved everything about it. Including your hot air technique!
Ohh, yes. You can get winded!! Thank goodness, otherwise I would have used up all my reinkers.
That was a fun card to make Brian,
Going to do that one when I get home ,
Thank you for all those big bear hugs Brian
Love you !!!!
