What do you get when you mix Crushed Curry, Old Olive and Pumpkin Pie? Old Curry Pie. It sounds delightful, doesn’t it? Maybe not. Regardless, this combination of bright and rich colors is perfect for this time of year as the greens start to fade and the oranges and yellows come into focus. I made fun a flirty card for this week’s Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge – partly because I could make the colors fit with my image, but mostly because I think the sentiment is hysterical. Here’s my card:
And here the color challenge banner for PPA227:Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Paper Piecing. (not to be confused with Paper Piercing) You know I love to snip tiny shapes – I’m not a very patient person, so I feel like this helps me hone that skill. You can’t move too fast, or you’ll snip the wrong parts. You can’t move too slow, or you’ll be there all day. I stamped this image on all four papers (Crushed Curry, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie and Whisper White) and then snipped out the images I wanted for each color and began layering. Layer and snip carefully so you don’t have to stamp and snip all over again (not saying I did that…).
- Simple Borders. I created a thin Pumpkin Pie border around the centerpiece of this card and around the band that graces the front. The Old Olive that surrounds the centerpiece is mimicked in the Old Olive around the 2″ Circle. This repetition of border sizes adds a clean, soothing quality to the overall image, don’t you think?
- Color Balance. I’ve shared my squinting technique several times, but I’ll share it again for the newbies – if you want to check the balance of a card (images or colors), sit back and squint you eyes. Do you see balance? What needs to happen to balance the project? Do it now. I’ll wait. Now send me a nickel because I’ve patented this technique. Thanks for your support. 🙂 All that to say – as I was making this card, I had to reduce the width of the Crushed Curry band to yield the right balance of colors I wanted in this clean-and-simple card.

I shared a second post yesterday with a summary of all the great things going on this week. If you missed it, you can see it here.
I love the layout and color combo for this fun card. But I would prefer New Pumkin Pie as opposed to old curry pie. 😉
I agree, Pumpkin Pie sounds better than Curry Pie any day!! But I love your card Brian and, if you think you are not a patient man I’m here to totally disagree with you, my dear. It takes infinite patience to snip little pieces of paper like you often do for your creations and, the way you described the process, is exactly what it’s required to do this delicate dance with the scissors. We all know you love this and it shows!!!
Thank you for sharing.
Your paper piecing is amazing! 🙂
Funny title today! Great card too!
I think that the sentiment is hysterical as well. Clearly we have the same, sick sense of humor. I love this colour combo as well. Great card!
I love your card and am in love with the saying as well. I’ve already used it for my Thanksgiving Hostess
P is for precision ,piecing and Pumpkin Pie ! I like that you did not overpower this card with the Pumpkin Pie color . And just look at those slivers of edges for your borders ! P is for Perfection !
I like your card !
Such a fun card with perfect balance!! (Somehow the squinting technique doesn’t work for me, need to practice).
Super, duper perfect card! I wish I could find an occasion to use that saying. Seems like I’m always the one hosting AND doing the clean up. I’m not complaining because I’m thankful I can do it but once in a while it sure would be nice to be called to the dinner table, served and then leave. Yeah, yeah – I know – that’s what restaurants are for LOL.
As always Brian, your card is amazing. You always seem to have the exact combination of size, shape and placement and we won’t even go into your snipping abilities. I really like this color combo as well. I don’t think you could find a more appropriate color combo for this time of year.
Thanks for sharing Brian. Can you tell that I just love this card? 🙂
Pretty (with no squinting required!) And, as usual, awesome job snipping!
All nickels can go to the stache fund….
Wow. That is some impressive fussy cutting. Love the color balance (typed while squinting). Great card.
I think your card is a gorgeous testament to your patience. That much snipping would have me removing large clumps of hair by the fists fulls. I think these colors works so well together and practically sing Autumn. Great job Brian, the most patient
I loved the saying here.. Because I know you, you are glad they are hosting! Great card!!!
Hilarious Brian…. perfect set for you. Thanks for tickling my funny bone today. Glad you’re working on your patience too. 😉 TFS…. oh, almost forgot…. great card today!
