Grateful for You for FMS162

My Consignment Sale was a huge hit yesterday (if you want to read my quick recap, click here).  I’ve got one more event this afternoon, and then I can try to get caught up a bit.  🙂  This week’s Freshly Made Sketches design gave me a wonderful opportunity to make a super-clean card that I’m really happy about.  And this week’s Paper Players Challenge (Clean and Simple Thank You) fit the bill, as well.  Woo hoo!  Here’s my card:

Merry Everything, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FMS162And here’s Kim Singdahlsen’s sketch that inspired my card:

And here’s Ann Schach’s Clean and Simple Challenge banner:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Flip it.  As you can tell, I’ve turned this sketch on its side.  That’s allowed in these challenges as long as the finished project makes sense in the new perspective.  I really wanted to position my sentiment outside of the panel of Designer Series Paper beneath it, but I felt like the sentiment needed to either be at the base of a vertical band or on the right side of a horizontal band.  As such, I flipped the sketch so that I could keep the sentiment from crowding up the busy pattern beneath.  For the stamp set and paper I chose, this perspective worked best for me.
  • Keep it Clean.  One thing is obvious about this card – despite the busy pattern, there’s A LOT of white space on this card.  That’s what makes it work so well with the challenge from The Paper Players.  I love the way the card turned out, but I also find myself defending it.  It seems odd to me that the panel only needs the sentiment, but I really think that’s all it needs.  The pop of Tangerine Tango in the sentiment really keeps everything balanced.
  • No Season.  This sentiment is part of a stamp set from the Holiday Catalog called Merry Everything.  One is Christmas, one is Halloween and this one is Thanksgiving – but the sentiment is flexible to be used all year-round.  As such, I stayed away from the browns of Fall and designed a card that can be used at any time of the year.  Flexible stamps are the best!

  4. Another great card, Brian. Your cards stand out above so many others in their simplicity and yet stunning effect. I have a favor to ask: did you by any chance end up with a leftover stamp set called Kinda Eclectic at your sale? You and Mary Fish have both featured this set in the past week, but it’s not in the current catalog. Don’t spend a lot of time looking, but if you happen to run across one. . . .
