Last weekend, I created a spooky-chic project for this week’s Fab Friday sketch challenge to showcase some new Halloween items from Stampin’ Up!’s 2015 Holiday Catalog. Yippee Doodle Dee! Although I did not share this card with Mary Fish, my super-creative and respectably-ethical mentor, my card’s twin showed up in her MOJO Monday project earlier this week (I’m sharing her card below). We both created very similar cards that were designed for two different sketch challenges – and both cards were glued down and completed before either of us shared our card with the other. An eerie coincidence? Perhaps. How else can you explain the bold similarities between our two cards? Unless you conclude that rascally Mary traveled to Atlanta Saturday night, sneaked into The Fungeon and copied my card. That might be one way to look at it. 🙂 Here’s my card:
And here’s the sketch for the Fab Friday challenge that inspired my card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Cheer All Year Stamp Set. The Cheer All Year stamp set is one of my favorites in this Holiday Catalog. Filled with great sentiments and bold, seasonal shapes, this stamp set will serve you well from August through December. Here’s a sneak peek at this stamp set that will be available September 1 (the acorn has a matching punch, and the tree has a matching die – yippee!):
Cheer All Year Stamp Set, Stampin’ Up!
- Spider Web Doilies. While there are several new products showcased on this card, the new Spider Web Doily steals the show, don’t you think? I just love the intricate design of this beautiful embellishment. Sure, I’d love to have a die that cuts out the doily – BUT you get 24 of these beauties for just $4.50. That’s quite a great deal – and there are SO MANY great ways to use these fun and festive cutouts. I added a 2″ Circle punch of Tangelo Twist to the back of the doily to allow the center to shine – it doesn’t fit PERFECTLY behind the center of the doily, so I cheated a bit under the banner. 🙂
- Mary Fish’s card. I told you that Mary’s card is very similar – unless you saw her card already, you won’t believe how similar they are – same Designer Series Paper, same Spider Web Doily, same Cheer All Year stamp set, same banner across the middle. The similarities are quite eerie – which is appropriate for a Halloween card, don’t you think?
Stamp Sets: Cheer All Year Papers: Happy Haunting Designer Series Paper, Tangelo Twist, Very Vanilla Inks: Tuxedo Black Memento Accessories: Spider Web Doilies, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the FabFriday site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!
Brian
Love it!
Beautiful card Brian, those doilies are just gorgeous and so detailed. A die would be great but, this beauties are already perfectly die cut, the work has been done for you so, all we need to do is enjoy them.
Great idea to put a circle behind the center of this spider web, it really allows the intricate design to shine.
Mary’s card does look like yours, both are lovely.
Thank you for sharing.
I love how the right side of the card is off haunting!
I had seen Mary Fish’s card and when I saw yours today I thought “hey, that is just like Mary’s card”! That really is some mojo, right? Love both cards and those spider web doilies. Cannot wait to get mine!!
Circle behind the spider web…BRILLIANT! thanks for sharing your lovely card!
One more thing…..will you be doing your little paper share books for the holiday catalog papers? My customers love those!
I will be making DSP swatch books for the upcoming catalog – thanks for asking. 🙂 I’ll post information the last week of August.
I really like both cards Brian. Both are very nice. But, what I really like about yours is that you have everything offset to the right edge of the card. I would never think to do that. I know the sketch shows that, but I still wouldn’t have done that with all the layers, and it looks great!
Freaky Freaky! Maybe it’s Freaky Friday instead of Fab Friday! Love your card! The doily is so cool! TFS!
Cute card, Brian. I love all the different DSPs and the doily is a great, fun embellishment.
Both are WONDERFUL cards – I guess great minds DO think alike:-). My Happy Haunting DSP and spider web doilies arrive Mon. – can’t wait!!
Ian not a dolly fan, but These are a MUST for my Halloween cards!!
Awesome card! I just love wat you did with the spider web.
Brian,
as soon as my order comes in, I am CASEing this card. I absolutely LOVE, LOVE it.
Hey, remember great minds think alike (Mary and yours that is)!
Very nice Halloween cards, SU holiday product is awesome.
Hi Brian:
I’m sure you are aware of the old saying that “great minds think alike”. It seems you and Mary are both Great Minded because both cards are fabulous. Those spider web doilies are going to be a pretty hot product for sure. Love Halloween black and orange and that DSP looks to be sensational. Just fabulous cards, both of them. I can’t wait to get the new catalog!
Love your card…you and Mary are both Sooo creative …my guess is that you both just got into each other’s heads at the same time….great minds think alike!! Enjoy your weekend!
I’ve got no kids still at home and no grand children so I don’t do Halloween. But if I did, this card I would definitely make! Really cute.
It’s funny how when we all play with the same toys that we come up with different takes. I actually think your card and Mary’s card are quite different just using the same toys makes us feel like everyone’s cards are so similar. Both cards are awesome ways to showcase the new fun stuff we can work with:) Happy Haunting, Brian:)
