Today is Judy’s last day at work before she retires and moves to New York. Good for Judy, sad for us. The executive assistants who work directly with Judy asked me to make a card they could give to her, and I was happy to oblige. I was excited to finally have a reason to the use the “from all of us” sentiment from Crazy About You – I don’t have many occasions to use that sentiment – but I was mostly excited to use this beautiful piece of paper from the Serene Scenery Designer Series Paper Stack. Here’s the card I made for Judy:
I used a sentiment from Wild About Flowers for the inside of this card – although the card doesn’t mention “retirement” anywhere, I think she’ll understand why we are congratulating her at her retirement party, right? Here’s the inside of the card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Serene Scenery. Have you flipped past Serene Scenery Designer Series Paper Stack in the catalog, thinking you don’t really need it? These 6″ x 6″ pages are incredible, and I dare you to NOT have fun with them. One side of the pages features a photograph of either nature or texture, and the opposite side of each page contains graphic designs in coordinating colors. I adore these papers and am wow’d by them every time I reach for them. The good news – the photography either matches our colors perfectly or is altered to match. Such a fun stack of papers!
- CASE’d Layout. I had a lot of fun making this fun card – it’s rewarding when your are designing a special card for a special friend. The “from all of us” was going to be a banner (extending from the right side of the card), but I decided a full band would work wonderfully. That’s when it struck me that I was unintentionally CASEing this layout from another card I’ve made. I had a lot of fun making that card, too! Incidentally, I used Serene Scenery for both cards. - Warming Up to the Yellows. This always happens to me – it takes me about a year to warm up to the yellow in the In Color families. I couldn’t handle Summer Starfruit until it only had a couple of months of life when I started to really love it. Hello Honey took me a while to warm up to (although not nearly as long). A year in, I’m finally loving Delightful Dijon. It doesn’t have to be heavy and dark. With a correct pairing it can be rich and bold. If you like this combination of Delightful Dijon, Basic Black and Very Vanilla, please save this:

That is EXACTLY the way to use the Serene Scenery paper. Bold, die cut sentiment and let “nature” do the rest of the talking. Brilliant, BK.
I love papers like the Serene Scenery, Brian. This is the kind of papers that bring out the best in a card. Yours came out beautifully…she will be pleased.
Oh, love this Brian. The DSP is perfect, wishes for the future. Love the colors . . . very corporate.
