Floral Boutique Designer Series Paper for FMS257

Freshly Made Sketches has a new look to their site – it’s fresh, clean and fun just like Jen Mitchell’s sketch this week.  I added a few more layers (you know I can’t help myself) to showcase the Floral Boutique Designer Series Paper (on sale this month) and Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Series Paper.  Here’s my card for Jen’s challenge:

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

FMS257Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Layer Construction.  This card showcases the brilliant colors and patterns of these two papers – each layer is precisely positioned to showcase each.  Once I had all my pieces cut out, it was important to glue them all down in a formal, systematic method.  First, I glued the top layer to the white frame behind – keeping the layers flush with the right sides.  Then I glued those pieces to the Pop of Pink panel (again, flush with the right sides) before centering all of that on the white frame.  Here’s a quick video I created late last year to show how I line up layers that are flush with one side:

  • It’s Not a Cutout.  After I glued down this little heart that was cropped with the Gift Card Envelope & Trims Thinlits with the Pop of Pink paper, I realized that it looks as though the heart cuts through the Night of Navy and Whisper White layers.  The optical illusion was not my intent, but it’s kinda cool, don’t you think?

  • Color Combination.  I adore the stark opposition of Night of Navy and Melon Mambo – the deep blue and bright pink are so different from one another that they make a great pair.  With all the layers and patterns on this card, I paired the two with a Crumb Cake base to find a midway point between the two (Crumb Cake is such a grounding force).  If you like this combination of colors, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! Floral Boutique Designer Series Paper (featured above) is one of eight Designer Series Papers in Stampin’ Up!’s Buy Three, Get One Free Promotion.  This promotion runs through October and is a GREAT way to stock up on amazing papers.  Yippee!

  4. Hi Brian:
This card is just gorgeous. I find it amazing that the card stock in your card today is all “off center” and yet is totally balanced. I love how your Night of Navy piece shares the white edge of your Melon Mambo DSP piece. It is comforting to know that not everything need always be centered! AND thanks for the layering tips in your video today. I love when you come into my home and share tea with me. I hope you don’t have any storm damage with this hurricane. I am thinking of you.

  5. I love this! The colors together are amazing and really catch your eye.

Stay safe with this crazy storm going through!

  6. Ooh, that extra layer is divine! What a great way to introduce a different color – and one that is the exact opposite to boot! Fabulous card. And I love that big, bold sentiment. Thanks for playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches!

  7. I truly adore these colours together! The mix of these DSPs and sentiment make this one special card! I love it Brian!
