Jen Timko is hosting this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. I adore her sketch. The design team and the folks playing along with the challenge have found amazing ways to showcase this panel in the top, right of the sketch. Every time I look at the sketch, though, I see a blanket or towel hanging over the edge. There’s a page in the Festive Birthday Designer Series Paper pack that reminds me of a Mexican sarape blanket, so I embraced my vision of the blanket. Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for Jen’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge that inspired my card:
- The Sarape. Don’t you agree that this paper looks just like a traditional Mexican blanket? All of the pages are perfect for birthday cards, but some can be used for other bright-and-cheery projects. The combination of colors and the trendy patterns (filled with saguaros, guitars and flowers) are so much fun. I love this page with gorgeous, colorful stripes – I snipped a Tempting Turquoise piece of paper from this pack (the same pattern that’s used in the background) to create a fun and festive fringe on the edge of my blanket.
- If I Had Another Chance. When I make mistakes or am not 100% happy with a design, I often times remake the pieces that aren’t glued down. I like the blanket, and I like the placement of the hearts along the top. I’m happy with how I built the sentiment with the Birthday Fiesta stamp set and the Endless Birthday Wishes stamp set. It’s the placement of the sentiment that makes me a bit nutty. If I had another chance, I’d position the sentiment a little lower on the white panel – just a touch. Particularly in the photo, the fringe seems to infringe on the sentiment. 🙂 It’s really just the shadow. Still, I’d love to move it down a snidge.
- Sealed with Love Bundle. While this card is mostly a showcase of the Festive Birthday Suite from the Annual Catalog, I’ve added a little sneak peek of the Sealed with Love Bundle. This bundle should be at the top of your wish list from the upcoming Occasions Catalog. It’s the featured Valentine’s Day stamp set and Framelits. Here’s a look at the bundle:
If you missed my project that features this bundle, you can check it out here.

The perfect WOW! to add the row of hearts to the bold pattern.
Such a bright & bold card ready to add some cheer to someone’s special day! By the way, a belated “happy Birthday” to you Brian.
Oh how cute ! I love this Fiesta Suite ,but haven`t used any of mine yet . Your fringe is the cutest and I don`t think any one would throw this card away because the sentiment is not in the RIGHT spot !! I must admit that I have “been there” also .
Don`t you just love all the colors in that Fiesta dsp ?
LOVED IT ++++++++++++++++++
This is a very cute, fun card, Brian. No one, except you, will notice the sentiment. Love the fringe at the bottom.
I always love the way you “think out of the box”, Brian! Love that blanket. Don’t be so hard on yourself…the sentiment IS in the perfect place. I love it!
I love bright and exciting cards and the colors of your serape certainly reflect that. I don’t believe there is anyone who would receive this card and fail to smile and, after all, isn’t that one of the reasons we love to make cards? There is nothing better for me than to have a friend receive a card from me and write or call to tell me that I gave them their smile for the day.
Ooooh my friend , I love both of your cards , that’s going to be my next set ,
Yep , you inspired me always , few more days and I’m ready to go back to my craft room , I love u my friend , I can sure use one of those hugs you gave me when my momma pass away ,
