This week’s Theme Challenge at the Global Design Project is Trees. There are so many great options for a beautiful tree project – especially this time of year. I jumped into Stampin’ Up!’s 2017 Occasions Catalog, though, and inked up my brand new Happy Celebrations stamp set. A tree seemed to spout from there. Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:
- Happy Celebrations. I know, I know. I say that everything new needs to be on your wish list for the upcoming catalog. THIS set, though, is amazing! Not only does it offer some beautifully scripted and printed sentiments that can be used for almost any needed sentiment, but the words are MUCH bigger than you’d expect. Even though the printed catalog shows the stamps at their actual size, I wasn’t expecting these words to be so big. I just love this set (can you tell?), so I was anxious to use it. With a Trees Theme, I thought “celebrate new beginnings” was a nice ode to spring and to new adventures in life. Here’s a peek at the new photopolymer set (as always, you can click on the picture to see the set in my online store):
- Best Birds. I’ve eyed the thatched pattern in the Best Birds stamp set from the moment the set arrived in my Fungeon. While I wasn’t sure how I’d use it in a bird-themed card, I immediately knew I wanted to use it here. Not only did I add the thatched texture to the cropped out Emerald Envy tree leaves (cropped with Stylish Stems Framelits, an AMAZING new set of Framelits that I’ll be showcasing soon), but I added repeated the texture on the Dapper Denim border around the outside of the main panel for this card. The repeated pattern adds something special to any card.
- Color Combination. Emerald Envy has been a very popular color over the last several months. It’s a perfectly bright and rich color for the Christmas holidays. Crumb Cake has also been very popular. I paired these two with Dapper Denim for a fun color combination to welcome Spring or any new beginning. If you like this combination, too, feel free to save this:
Stamp Sets: Happy Celebrations, Best Birds Papers: Crumb Cake, Emerald Envy, Dapper Denim, Whisper White Inks: Dapper Denim, Emerald Envy Accessories: Tree Builder Punch, Stylish Stems Framelits Dies, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the Global Design Project site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!

I love this color challenge, Brian. It really makes a nice card with that sentiment. Have a great day!
Modern, organic and super cool. Great interpretation of your inspiration!
Great card for a lot of occasions ! Thanks for an up close look at the thatched stamp . I like it and I guess I NEED it now !
Love the colors !
What a clever use of that thatched stamp! I love the look:-). And the way that tree trunk is nestled in the word celebrate — BRILLIANT!! I love everything about this card! Thanks again for the inspiration:-) Enjoy your week!!
HI Brian: I’m sure you have told us but I’ve forgotten. When is the 2017 Occasions catalog be available to us non demonstrators? I really, really, really like this card – the color combo is perfect, the placement of the words and tree is so exactly right and the amount of white space really makes the message take the forefront. Just wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! I’m glad you like it. I’m guessing your catalogs will arrive this week. I’ve received confirmations from several customers who’ve started to receive them. ?
I’ve used Emerald Envy a lot this month, yet this color combo gives it totally different feel. Like it a lot.
The texture on the tree foliage and blue layer really makes the tree stand out! Superb!
