Wow, it seems the birthday projects have been non-stop. While I’m excited to share today’s project, I promise I’ll make an effort to go non-birthday tomorrow. 🙂 Today’s card showcases the amazing Star Blast Edgelits Dies that create a super-fun burst of stars and excitement. I accented this fun die with three bright, beautiful colors that are perfect for a birthday celebration: Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay and Daffodil Delight. I think you’ll agree this is a cheery card. Here it is:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Birthday Blast Bundle. Say that five times fast. 🙂 This new bundle – available in Stampin’ Up!’s 2017 Occasions on January 4 – gives you the Birthday Blast stamp set and the coordinating Star Blast Edgelits Dies at a budled 10% savings. Who doesn’t love that!? I used one of the sentiments from the stamp set last week – you can see that card here. Edgelits? How is this starburst different from Framelits or Thinlits? If you crop this starburst, the die will cut out all the intricate designs of stars and curly q’s, but the base of the die only cuts along the sides, leaving the bursts and curly q’s attached the the base. For my card, I cropped the dies about an inch from the base of the cardstock to create a strip for my sentiment.
- Building My Sentiment. I stamped “Happy Birthday” from the Sweet Cupcake stamp set and cropped it with the Classic Label punch. I then punched two chevrons from Melon Mambo cardstock to attach to the ends. I simply punched the pointed end into a piece of cardstock (and throw out the punched piece) and then carefully aligned the punch over the punched out area, sliding it down just a snidge to create a piece that would fit right on the sides of the sentiment. The sentiment was the only piece of white on my card (as it was originally designed). To keep it from being too sticky sweet, I added a Thick Whisper White panel to calm down the bright tones a bit.
- Color Combination. Yesterday I shared some Starter Colors for birthday cards for him, her and kids (you can see those combinations here). While today’s colors are mostly inspired by the Cards for Kids colors, there are variations. I used Melon Mambo and Whisper White from the color chart. Instead of Tempting Turquoise, I used Bermuda Bay. Instead of Crushed Curry, I used Daffodil Delight. If you like this combination of colors, please save this:

🙂
Brian this card would brighten anyone’s birthday! This burst die is a must have.
Brian, love the card and gift box. I have this bundle and now I know what to make with it. Thank you for sharing all of your beautiful projects!
Brian, the color choices on this card are spectacular! The card design is WOW! Love what you have done with this die!
Love the bright cheerful card you’ve created for us today. The white background layer does help set off all the wonderful color.
Hi Brian:
That edgelit die is pretty spectacular and you have certainly put it to good use in designing this card. Sometime, when things quiet down for you (do they ever?) I’d like to see a video on using it to answer questions about how you determine how far from the edge of the cardstock you place it, etc. I have several edgelits and never seem to be able to get them placed properly. Have a wonderful week my friend.
I love bright and cheery Birthday cards, Brian & this one takes the cake. You picked the perfect colours for this one!
What a fun and happy card!
This is such a cute, fun card, Brian. I loved that die as soon as I saw it. I make more birthday cards than any others and this would be a nice addition to my stash!! I love the color combo you used to make it so bright and cheery. Have a great day!
This is happy, festive and another must-have set!
Beautiful inlaid design with so much colorful personality!
I love the colors and the bundle. Will be getting mine soon, I hope! I was just wondering? Looking at the dies, I didn’t see how you made the Melon Mambo inside your biggest star? I thought if you used this die, it would cut a solid star. Did you use another star die? Thanks for sharing this beautiful card with us!
Happy Holidays!
Ahhh…yes. The Melon Mambo star is just the inside of the large, cropped star. The Daffodil Delight star that’s layered on top of that star is cropped with the medium-sized star. No big trick there – I just layered more. 🙂
