I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend. Mine was pretty laid back this year, and I’m happy for that. I have to get back into the swing of things this week after a very long vacation. I’m happy to jump back into the routine – afternoon naps are such a burden.
When a friend is sick, you want nothing more than to comfort them. When that friend lives clear across the country, a handmade card might be the most comforting gesture. While I keep a small stash of sympathy and get well cards on hand (those are never the easiest to make), I wanted to make a very special card for my friend after a recent trip to the hospital. I used new products and a cheery color combination to let her know that I’m thinking of here. Here’s my card:
- Beautiful You. Brace yourself – if you haven’t already seen lots of projects with the Beautiful You stamp set (a new set in Stampin’ Up!’s 2017 Occassions Catalog), you soon will. With gorgeous, sketched images and beautiful sentiments, this set is destined to be a top-seller. While the set is paired with the new watercolor pencils and is perfect for coloring, I thought the sketched lines would be perfect for white embossing on black – perfect for a chalkboard look. The woman with the umbrella was stamped with Whisper White Craft Ink and then heat embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder for a crisp, clean (but sketchy) look. Go ahead – add this set to your January 4 wish list.
- Chalkboard Background. Do you want to know the secret for my chalkboard background? There are several ways to distress a piece of black paper, but my method was the easiest. I reached for Urban Underground Specialty Designer Series Paper, a new pack of Delightful Dijon, Basic Black, Basic Gray, Silver and Very Vanilla paper in the 2017 Occasions Catalog. See the piece that’s second from the right? That’s a 12″ x 12″ piece the can be used for lots of projects. I adore this pack of papers, but I really love the textured chalkboard look of the piece I used for this project. While this pack of paper (at first look) appears geared toward men and father’s day, I hope you agree that it’s perfect, too, for a card with a feminine appeal.
- Color Inspiration. While the combination of Pool Party, Daffodil Delight and Whisper White are such an important role in this card and its uplifting feel, the Basic Black background plays a pivotal role – more of this card is black than any other color. If you like this color combination, as well, feel free to save this:
Stamp Sets: Beautiful You, Here for You Papers: Urban Underground Specialty Designer Series Paper, Subtles Designer Series Paper Stack (Pool Party), Pool Party, Daffodil Delight, Whisper White Inks: Archival Basic Black, Whisper White Craft Accessories: White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Heat Tool, Stampin’ Dimensionals
