Yesterday I shared my Design Team card for this week’s Global Design Project challenge (you can see that project here). Today I’m playing along with the same challenge. Yippee!
Today is July 4, Independence Day here in the United States, so I wanted to make a card with patriotic colors. Seems appropriate to pay homage to the Red, White and Blue today, and this challenge gave me the perfect sketch to do it. Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Building Stripes. You already know how much I love to create my own designs with cardstock, right? I was half-way through cutting all these 1/2″ stripes in red and blue when it hit me that red and white would be perfect (instead of just making the stripes in patriotic colors, why not pay respect to the flag?!). I cut a piece of Thick Whisper White cardstock (the base) and glued these nine 1/2″ strips to it – perfect length. I trimmed the edges with my retired Stampin’ Up! guillotine trimmer. How easy is that?!
- A Perfect Star and Sentiment. The red and white stripes are adorned with a perfect star and a sentiment that gave me exactly what I was looking for. Can you tell me where I found these? Although the Stars Framelits retired in May, I found this perfectly sized star in the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Dies.
How fun is that?! I searched my stamp sets for the perfect sentiment for a Fourth of July card. This “celebrate” from the new Celebration Time stamp set fit the bill with a simple word and a modern font.
- Patriotic Fun. Real Red, Whisper White and Dapper Denim are a perfect combination for a patriotic card. Incidentally, they are perfect for a nautical-themed card, too. The addition of Pool Party adds something really special to this combination, don’t you think? If you like this combination of Real Red, Dapper Denim and Pool Party, please save this:
Stamp Sets: Celebration Time Papers: Dapper Denim, Real Red, Thick Whisper White, Pool Party Inks: Whisper White Craft Ink Accessories: Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Dies, White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Heat Tool, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the Global Design Project to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!

This card couldn’t be more perfect for celebrating our country!
Wonderful patriotic card to celebrate this day! Safe travels to you and your SU family
Great card for the 4th. Have a very fun day.
Fun card. It still bothers me that I have never used any of the other elements to the mini treat bag die set. Just the bag itself. Maybe I need a trip to the Land of Oz and get a new brain. Maybe today I will try some of the fun elements.
Have a wonderful trip. We want details.
Love the stripes!
Cool clean card today!
Have a great trip!
Awesome card! Love everything about it, Brian!
