One Card, Three Looks

Yesterday I shared my Painted Glass and Under the Mistletoe card for this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch Challenge (you can see my original post here). This card is my second Christmas card of the year and my third card with the Under the Mistletoe Designer Series Paper. It’s also a special card for me since it’s my first time hosting a challenge at CAS(E) This Sketch. Yay!

Three Alternatives of One Card

As I am known to do, I played with a variety of looks before settling on the one I shared. Today, I want to share the other looks and offer a little bit more about this card. Here’s the card I shared yesterday:

Painted Glass, Under the Mistletoe Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingHere are two alternatives of the same card that I also played with before settling on the one above – can you spot the differences?

Painted Glass, Under the Mistletoe Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian King Painted Glass, Under the Mistletoe Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingYou are quick! Yes! I really wanted to the sentiment to be cropped with rounded edges to play off all of the “boxiness” of the rest of the card, so I stamped “A Reason to Celebrate” three times on Thick Whisper White and cropped it with:

  • a Layering Ovals Framelits Die
  • the Pretty Label punch
  • the 2-1/4″ Circle punch

Each has its merits. While the Pretty Label punch adds a more casual flair, the circle offers a wider span of white on the card. In the end I picked the oval shape because I don’t use it as often as the other two.

Which shape do you like best?

Layer Measurements

Since I’m sharing alternative versions of the card, I thought I could offer the measurements of the layers on the project (starting from the base of the card and working my way up):

  • Old Olive – 4-1/4″ x 11″ (scored at 5-1/2″)
  • Thick Whisper White – 3-7/8″ x 5-1/8″
  • Early Espresso – 3-3/4″ x 5″
  • Thick Whisper White – 3-1/8″ x 4-3/8″
  • Under the Mistletoe Designer Series Paper – 3″ x 4-1/4″
  • Regals 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper (Real Red) – 3″ x 2″
  • Early Espresso – 3″ x 3/8″
  • Thick Whisper White – various (depending on which you choose)

I agree with your choice, yet all are great!

  4. I like the oval because it is not competing with the busy dsp which is the most predominate focal point on your card .

  5. All 3 are lovely, no doubt! My preference is the one with the sentiment cropped with the Pretty Label Punch. Thanks for sharing, Brian, love your blog everyday!
