Fancy Phrases for Fab Friday

When I first saw the colors for the FabFriday color challenge that goes live today, I immediately thought they looked like a gorgeous sunset. What a beautiful mix of colors! Instead of creating a beautiful scene with a sunset, though, I glued strips of the colors together to make a not-literal sunset-reminiscent card. Here’s my card:

  • Building the Background. To build the background of my card, I cut four 1″ x 5-1/4″ strips of cardstock and glued the strips to a 5-1/4″ x 4″ piece of Whisper White cardstock. I then stamped the beautiful bouquet of flowers from the Fancy Phrases stamp set on the strips to build a pattern on the front of the card. Tip: I made sure the layers were perfectly flat before I started stamping so I could get a sold, clean stamp each time. After everything was glued and stamped, I cropped the focal panel down to 4-3/4″ x 3-1/2″ (trimming 1/4″ off the top, 1/4″ off the bottom and 1/2″ off the side). I then glued the panel to a piece of 4-7/8″ x 3-5/8″ piece of Thick Whisper White for a thin frame.
  • Fancy Phrases. I love the sentiments in the Fancy Phrases stamp set – they are a wonderful assortment of phrases that are beautifully styled. The bouquet of flowers is so dramatic and bold that I have always thought it would be gorgeous if showcased in black and white. I suppose I achieved the same feeling with this card – except in black and blue and red and orange and yellow…close. Here’s a look at the Fancy Phrases stamp set:Fancy Phrases, Stampin Up! 152530
  • A Closer Look. If you simply glance at the finished card above, you might think I stamped on colored cardstock, cut the strips and then just layered the pieces together. I wanted to give you a closer look, though, to show you there’s a seamless design here. Even though it might appear that the sketched flowers and leaves aren’t perfectly lined up (the colored strips can play games with your mind), you can see that they are lined up here:Fancy Phrases, Stampin Up!, Brian King
