A simple sketch can sometimes be all we need to make the card we’ve dreamed about. This week’s CAS(E) This Sketch gave me a great starting point for the super-clean and super-simple card I’m happy to share with you today. This is the first time I’ve inked up my Sweetest Time stamp set, and I couldn’t be happier with the end result. Here’s my card for this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge:
And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:
- Sweetest Time. There are some sweet sentiments and images in the Sweetest Time Bundle, but the star of this bundle is the Sweetest Borders Dies. One of the dies create a great border of candy canes and the other creates a beautiful spray of holly. I didn’t use these border dies on this card, but I did use the holly dies to crop my holly leaves. This bundle isn’t a standout in the new catalog (it’s not a part of a suite collection), but it’s a great bundle. Here’s a look at the Sweetest Time Bundle:
- Stitched Nested Dies. Donna’s sketch features a band along the right side of the card with a sentiment. I chose to showcase my sentiment on a Stitched Nested Layers Die – such a fun shape for any card. Here’s a closer look:
The assembly of this focal point was a little unique (at least it was a different process for me), so I thought I would share the steps I took to build it:
- I stamped the holly leaves with Shaded Spruce and the berries with Real Red on Thick Whisper White. I cropped them with the Sweetest Borders Dies.
- I stamped the sentiment with Shaded spruce ink on Thick Whisper White and cropped it with Stitched Nested Labels Dies. I glued the berries to the sides of the label die, positioning them where I wanted them and allowed them to hang over the edge a bit.
- I glued a thin strip of Real Red cardstock to the Soft Sea Foam base to visually ground the sentiment.
- I added three Stampin’ Dimensionals to the center of the sentiment and placed the Stitched Nested Labels cutout exactly where I wanted it. I then tucked the holly leaves under the label, gluing them exactly where I wanted them.
- I snuck a couple of Stampin’ Dimensionals under the edges of the sentiment piece near the holly to fully secure the cutout.
- Refreshing Christmas Color Combination. Shaded Spruce and Real Red make a great color combination for Christmas (what a great red-and-green combo!), but the addition of Soft Sea Foam makes this a dynamic trio! If you like this mix of Soft Sea Foam, Shaded Spruce and Real Red as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:
Bundles: Sweetest Time Stamp Sets: Sweetest Time Papers: Shaded Spruce, Soft Sea Foam, Real Red, Thick Whisper White Inks: Shaded Spruce, Real Red Accessories: Sweetest Borders Dies, Stitched Nested Labels Dies, Subtle 3D Embossing Folder, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the CAS(E) This Sketch site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!

Thanks, Windy! This photopolymer stamp set picked up that ink like none other. I was happy with the coverage of ink I got with it. ♥

Wow – love this simple, yet beautiful, card. You hit it out of the ballpark with this color and layout combination. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you so much, Sue! I love this trio, too – was surprised by how much I liked the combination of colors when my card was done! I’m so happy you like it.
What a WOW kind of creation my friend. Been looking for another holiday card to create……Might just have found it. Thanks!
Thank you so much, Kadie! I love nothing more than to inspire – I hope you do make this. ♥
. You caught my attention with the red strip addition to ground the sentiment . True , because it would have looked like it was floating ! I love details that wizards add to their cards !!
Super sweet card !!
Ha! Thank you so much, Sonny! I knew it needed something else at the base of the sentiment, but I couldn’t add another pair of holly leaves. The “underline” worked well for me. Glad you like it! – Wizard in Training
I love today’s color combination. The Soft Seafoam is perfect for the background and a color I rarely use. Very pretty card. Thanks for the how-to tips. Enjoy your day!
Thanks, Hilda! It’s such a soft green that I thought it would play well with these bold, regal colors. I’m so happy you like it! ♥
That strip of red under the stitched white greeting really pulled everything together on this fantastic card. Simplicity with a punch! Love it!
Thanks, Grace! I literally wanted to “underline” the sentiment here. Hope you have a wonderful day! ♥
Love the clean simplicity of your card today Brian. And of course there is that great color combination too! Well done!
Thank you so much, Sharon! I couldn’t have loved this balance of colors more. Always wonderful to hear from you!
The holly is so sweet! Perfect CAS style for the holidays!
