I was raised by the beach. We lived off the coast of Georgia for much of my early childhood, and my parents owned a couple of seafood restaurants on nearby islands. We moved to the coast of South Carolina after that, where we lived through my teenage years. I never (not once) enjoyed the beach in the daytime during the hottest days of Summer, but I’ve always loved the peacefulness of the beach in the early morning or late evening. So beautiful! Today’s card Here’s my card celebrates the beautiful colors and textures of the beach:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Friends Are Like Seashells. I’ve seen so many project with the Friends Are Like Seashells Bundle, new in Stampin’ Up!’s January – June 2021 Mini Catalog, and I’ve loved them all. Today is not the first time I’ve showcased the gorgeous papers in the coordinating Designer Series Paper, but this is the first time I’ve inked up the Friends are Like Seashells stamp set and used the coordinating Seaside Seashells Dies. Here’s a look at this incredible bundle:
The Seashells 3D Embossing Folder coordinates with these dies and with the stamps in this set – brilliant! – but it’s currently on backorder due to such popularity. The backdrop to my sand dollars is a gorgeous page from the Sand & Sea Designer Series Paper. How gorgeous are the colors and patterns in this pack of papers?

- Pulling Focus. I love the sentiment at the center of this card, but centering it wasn’t the only way I pulled focus to the sweet saying. I gave my sentiment a squared-off frame that makes it stand out against the rounded sand dollars that create a band across my card. I repeated that frame with a larger one cropped from Vellum Cardstock and popped up both with Stampin’ Dimensionals between each layer. Here’s a closer look:
In addition, I added three Elegant Faceted Gems in a triangle around the sentiment. These earth-toned gems are a beautiful accent on the card. I pulled the stitched frames from the incredible Hippo & Friends Dies (I’m sticking with a “Friends” them today that are part of the Hippo Happiness Bundle. Here’s a look at this bundle:
- Color Combination. There’s no better color to capture sand than…you guessed it…Sahara Sand. Crumb Cake is pretty wonderful, too, but ahhhh…Sahara Sand. I don’t use it often, but I love it when I do. I love the soft blues and pinks in this panel of Sand & Sea Designer Series Paper, but I really love the earthiness that Sahara Sand brings. If you like this mix of Seaside Spray, Blushing Bride and Sahara Sand as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:

Love it…it speaks to this beach girl!
Pretty colors ! I really like the vellum behind the sentiment !
This is a ahhhh card !! Lovely !
Brian, this is simply beautiful. I was born and raised in Chicago, but adore the beach. Must be my Pisces sign. 🙂 Your card is perfect for the peaceful tranquility of the beach, and the colors you chose are divine. Love the sentiment, smack dab in the middle with the vellum. I really need to use vellum more. It really sets things off and gives it just enough of pizzaz! Great card my friend.
Love this card, Brian!
Thanks so much, Julie! I’m so happy you like it. ♥
Have saved your wonderful color combo. It just seems so fresh and light. We live about an hour from the ocean and we’re finally able to visit last week. We look forward to more visits as quarantining eases. It’s one of our favorite places to go. Thanks for the inspiration!
It’s so nice to hear a bit about where you grew up Brian! It makes this card even more special🌸
Love everything about this card! Beautiful colors and design and that bit of vellum is perfect! Wish I grew up near the ocean! I grew up along the Mohawk River….not quite the same…..lol…
Such a relaxing vibe. Love the colors and the addition of the vellum. Perfect choice of the Hippo and Friends dies, too. All around stunner.
Love your design and color palette 🎨, Brian! And your reminiscing about your growing up by the beach 🏝
Sweet display of sand dollars and adore the touch of vellum.
Oh so subtle and pretty
What a stunning card! The colors and perfect and the sentiment so right!
Very pretty card. I want to go to the beach now!! I love the vellum behind the diecut sentiment layer. So pretty. I missed you early this morning, then the day flew by. Enjoy your weekend.
OK, so I am going to CASE this beautiful card and give it to my husband in Maui in May! He has been my rock for the past year and a half and has lifted me up through some tough times. He will love this! Thanks for the inspiration Brian!
