A Lottle

Yesterday I shared the papers that available to be earned in Stampin’ Up!’s August-September 2021 Sale-a-Bration event (you can see that post here). I love these papers and had fun playing with the Penguin Playmates Designer Series Paper to make this festive and fun card:

My card is inspired by Kerstin Kreis’ inspiration project in this week’s Global Design Project CASE the Designer challenge. Here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

When we CASE (Copy and Share Everything or Copy and Selectively Edit), we find inspiration in a project – theme, color combinations, layout, products used – and create our own project by making changes to make it our own.  When CASEing, it’s important to give credit to the original designer – it doesn’t take away from your project at all. I love the little pattern Kerstin created and cropped with the heart on her card. I immediately knew I wanted to recreate a similar pattern for the focal point of my card.

My card features three of the pages from the Penguin Playmates Designer Series Paper that can be earned with a $50 order during Sale-a-Bration. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in this fun pack of papers:

Penguin Playmates Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up! 158420Here’s a rundown of the three pages I used in my card:

  • The Fresh Freesia (the second pattern on the bottom) square provides a snowy backdrop for our festive friend.
  • The patterned circle is created with the fourth pattern on the bottom. More on that in a bit.
  • The penguin is cropped with the Penguin Builder Punch from the fifth pattern on the bottom.

Not only did I crop the penguin from the Designer Series Paper with the Penguin Builder Punch, but I added a sweet sentiment from the Penguin Place stamp set. These two products are sold separately but also together as a bundle. Here’s a look at the Penguin Place Bundle, new in Stampin’ Up!’s July-December 2021 Mini Catalog:

Penguin Place Bundle, Stampin Up! 156789The sentiment on my card says, “I like you a lottle.” The inside of my card completes that statement with “It’s like a little but a lot.” It’s even cuter that this sentiment is being delivered by an adorable penguin.

Penguin Place Bundle, Penguin Playmates Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up!, Brian KingTo created the patterned circle behind the little penguin, I cut 1/4″ strips from the striped pattern in the Penguin Playmates Designer Series Paper, cutting against the strips. I then glued the strips to a piece of Basic White, alternating patterns to create a pattern. Here’s a look at this page from the pack of papers (I love this page so much!):

Penguin Place Bundle, Penguin Playmates Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up!, Brian KingPlease don’t look at the bottom row – that pattern is off from the rest, so I positioned my Layering Circles Die above that line to crop the circle I showcased on my card. 🙂

I love the four colors featured in this striped paper – such a wonderful combination of blue, purple and greens. If you like this mix of Just Jade, Soft Sea Foam, Misty Moonlight and Fresh Freesia as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:
