I Miss You for the Be Inspired Blog Hop

It’s time for another Be Inspired Design Team Blog Hop – what fun! The Be Inspired Design Team is a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from all over the world who are excited to share our themed projects with you. I’m so honored to be a part of this group of talented stampers!

For today’s Be Inspired Blog Hop, we are sharing projects we’ve designed with a “good bye” or “miss you” theme. We hope our projects inspire you and that you leave with lots of fun ideas! If you aren’t starting the hop here, then you probably just popped over from the project shared by my talented friend Carolynn Sander.

I Miss You

Prepare yourself for the understatement of the year – the last two years have been strange. I hope we will never again experience such a time where we are removed from friends and family. I can survive without dining in restaurants, sitting in movie theaters or traveling in planes, but I hope I never have to go so long without seeing friends and family. “I miss you” cards strike a very different tone after what we’ve all be through. Here’s my card for today’s hop:

Tulip Fileds, Art Gallery, Flowering Fields Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up!, Brian KingI’m a big fan of a simple landscape on a card – I don’t have to be an incredible artist to create a green field and blue sky. Even with all the bright-and-cheery pages of flowers in the Flowering I cropped these panels from the Flowering Fields Designer Series Paper. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the Flowering Fields Designer Series Paper:

Flowering Fields Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up! 157670I used the second design on the top row for my grass, the fourth design on the bottom row for my sky and the sixth design on the bottom row for the background panel on my card. I added a layer of the Vellum Layering Designs behind the focal panel. You might not be able to see the design, but there’s a map design on the vellum panel – I thought it worked great with the grid design from the Flowering Fields Designer Series Paper and worked well with my “miss you” theme.

Tulip Fileds, Art Gallery, Flowering Fields Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up!, Brian KingAlong my skyline, I placed a simple tree from the Tulip Fields Bundle. I inked the tree with Pear Pizzazz ink and used a Blender Pen to pull some of the ink away from the tree trunk and branches. I then painted them with an Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker. I cropped the tree with one of the dies from Windmill Fields Dies, part of the Tulip Fields Bundle. Here’s a look at this bundle:

While Old Olive isn’t listed as one of the colors in the Flowering Fields Designer Series Paper, the panel of paper watercolored with Pear Pizzazz has some rich tones that look very Old Olive, while the tree and grass are softer and sweeter. If you like this mix of Pool Party, Pear Pizzazz and Old Olive as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:

  1. Love the card – clean design. Love the use of the map vellum – perfect touch! Interesting how you said you used the blender pen to pull the ink from the leaves and trunk. Iā€™m going to have to give it a try.

  2. I adore the simplicity and sweetness of your choices!

  3. Such a sweet soft card. You are still the king of vellum! šŸ™‚

  4. Wonderful color combo & sketch, Brian!

  5. How clever to use the map-designed vellum which doesn’t look like a map at all on your sweet card. I agree that “Miss You” has a different connotation in our post-pandemic world. I love the single pretty tree. Enjoy your day!

    • Thank you so much, Hilda! I couldn’t NOT use this sweet tree. Glad you like the idea of using the map vellum – I knew it would look good against the grid and was happy with the tie-in of the map. Hope your day is great!

  6. Feeling the LOVE from your color combination. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Brian I agree with you, being away from friends and family is a rough one. Your card speaks volumes!!!

  8. A very classic card! The message is pure love. I keep passing up that vellum, not knowing what I would do with it. But of course, you always find a way to use everything. Love this!

  9. Great card Brian, I love how you have used the DSP and Vellum x
