With the release of every catalog, I’m always excited to play with the new Designer Series Papers. There’s always “that one page” that stands out for its pattern or colors or texture – I’m always afraid to use “that one page” because I want to make sure I have the perfect project for it. The GORGEOUS, boldly striped page in Butterfly Kisses 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper is “that one page” for me. I threw caution to the wind and just cut into it! I was inspired by the colorful stripes and used those colors to make this card:
Here’s a look at the fun, vibrant colors in the Butterfly Kisses 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper:
I pulled Calypso Coral, Crushed Curry and Parakeet Party from the paper to build the poppy that rests on the focal panel of this card. It’s such a vibrant combination of beautiful tones! To build the poppy and accompanying leaves, I cropped Calypso Coral, Crushed Curry and Parakeet Party cardstock with the Poppy Moments Dies:
To build my flower and leaves, I used a “pad dragging” technique I shared a few weeks ago. I dragged a Calypso Coral ink pad over Calypso Coral cardstock to darken the piece of paper. I cropped the detailed, thin dies with the inked cardstock and cropped the base with un-inked cardstock. I used the same technique to build the leaves and center of the flower. If you’d like to see more about how I built these items, click here.
I added a little texture to the Starry Sky panel behind the flowers with some Starry Sky ink and a water spot image from the Nature’s Prints stamp set. The sentiment on the card is pulled from the Hello Beautiful stamp set. ♥
I love the unexpected mix of colors in the Butterfly Kisses 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper. I’m not sure I would have ever put them together, but they are a perfect combination. If you like this mix of Parakeet Party, Calypso Coral and Crushed Curry as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:

A beautiful card
Thank you so much, Margaret Ann! It was fun to play with these familiar dies and new colors. Glad you like it.
Kiss, kiss for the beautiful Butterfly Kisses DSP! Love that bold bloom!
Thanks, Mary! ♥ This paper deserves every kiss you send.
I’m proud of myself for thinking that you might have used your clever “pad dragging “ coloring technique before I actually read your post. I looked at the card image and thought, “I bet…” (It did help that I’ve used that method a few times thanks to you since your April introduction of the technique)
I love the saturated colors in this card. So much fun. Thanks for another inspiring project!
That makes me so happy to hear, Linda! I feel like an artist when I can create texture without stamps. 🙂 So glad you like this card and technique. ♥
Love the DSP background you chose for this and the pop of the sentiment! Awesome card!
Thanks so much, Windy! As you know, it all started with the DSP. 🙂
What a PRETTY PRETTY card my friend. Makes me SMILE!
Made you smile? Well, then my job here is done. Have a great day! ♥
I love this bright, fun card, Brian. The background DSP is perfect for the color combination. I agree with Kadie that it makes me smile! Enjoy your day!
Love that it made you smile, Hilda! ♥ I feel like I’ve accomplished everything I need to accomplish today. Hope your day has been great!
Thought I would pop in with a little comment instead of just lurking around the corner. This is so fun, bright, and cheery. I will be CASEing this combo for some get well cards with a change of sentiments. “Thinking of you” will fit the bill nicely for those who might not be recovering so well. I have been using my poppy set a few times this month too. Thanks for a great idea. Lastly, YOU ARE amazing!
It’s so nice to hear from you, Chris! ♥ Hope you are doing well. I agree that this big flower would make a great “thinking of you” card – such an uplifting image. Hope your weekend is great! ♥
Beautiful card today, Brian! Color, color everywhere!! Beautiful!
I have to hand it to this Designer Series Paper – the colors make me so happy. Thanks, Debbie! ♥
WOW! WOW! WOW! WOW! (that is all). 🙂
Awwww…thanks, Bobbi! I’m so glad you like it. Hope you are well. ♥
Well ,everybody agrees that your DSP just pops ! It is such a great background for your bold flower !
