Yesterday, I shared how our “stay-cation” was disrupted by an air conditioning system that gave up on us. I had intended to “put a bow” on that story at the end of my post, but I forgot and just ended the post after I talked about my card. Your messages and comments (thanks for your concern!) reminded me that I need to close the loop on that story, so … the air went out Sunday night and was repaired by Wednesday evening. Because we have a mini-split in the den, we were able to live in one small room of the house. It’s not how I planned to spend my stay-at-home vacation, but I was, nevertheless, grateful for the cool air in the den while we waited for the main home’s system to be repaired. All is well now. Thanks so much!
I love Stampin’ Up!’s detailed dies that layer over one another to create a beautiful, finished look. There have been several over the years, but I played with the Layering Hollyhocks Dies, new in Stampin’ Up!’s 2022 Annual Catalog, to build the card I’m sharing with you today:
The Heavenly Hollyhocks Bundle might not jump out at you if you aren’t already looking for flowers when you flip through the Annual Catalog – I had to Google “hollyhocks” to see photos of these flowers (but I immediately recognized them as soon as I saw them). Here’s a look at the Heavenly Hollyhocks Bundle, which includes the Heavenly Hollyhocks photopolymer stamp set and coordinating Layering Hollyhocks Dies:
With a sheet of Thick Basic White cardstock, I cropped the two layers of hollyhocks from the Layering Hollyhocks Dies. It took some time, but I had loads of fun coloring the pieces with Stampin’ Blends (I used Flirty Flamingo, Fresh Freesia, So Saffron and Granny Apple Green). I colored one element at a time (flower on top layer and then flower on bottom layer) to make sure I layered these cut-outs with the right colors. Here’s how my finished pieces looked:
I went back-and-forth multiple times with these layers to find the exact colors I wanted and to ensure they would layer correctly. Here’s what they look like when layered on top of one another:
Before adding them to the panel on my card, I stamped the flowers with Flirty Flamingo ink on Basic White cardstock (it’s one stamp with three flowers on it) and then layered the cropped flowers right on top. So easy!
I cropped the layers on my card with the new Deckled Rectangles Dies. These dies layer perfectly (there are 8 dies in the set) and give an unfinished look in a very clean way. Here’s a look at the Deckled Rectangles Dies:
If you like the mix of Fresh Freesia, Flirty Flamingo and Granny Apple Green showcased in the flowers and leaves on this card, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:
Bundles: Heavenly Hollyhocks Stamp Sets: Heavenly Hollyhocks Papers: Basic Gray, Pool Party, Basic White, Thick Basic White Inks: Flirty Flamingo, Memento Tuxedo Black, Stampin’ Blends (Fresh Freesia, Flirty Flamingo, Granny Apple Green, So Saffron) Accessories: Layering Hollyhocks Dies, Deckled Rectangles Dies, Iridescent Pearl Basic Jewels, Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals, Stampin’ Dimensionals

Brian,
Catching up here and sorry you had “air conditioner failure”, but glad everything is back to “normal” now!
You did such a “WOW” job with these dies and the colors you chose!
Well done!
Your coloring is awesome on these beautiful flowers. The card is stunning! Glad to hear the end of your story! Enjoy your day!
I love this card Brian, great job!!! I’m glad to hear that you’re AC is working!!! Stay cool👍
Thanks for explaining how you made this card! I was zooming in and imagining tiny die cuts of many pieces of paper. I was so relieved to read that you colored it and then stamped the background, whew! Gorgeous result, absolutely gorgeous. And, so glad to know the rest of the story!
Beautiful creation. Stay cool!
Beautiful card!

Flowers are gorgeous! Love the layers
Of
Color!
Wow, that is gorgeous! Love the deckled layers, too! Sorry about your air con and your vacay interrupted. Been there done that (without a den to stay in) in FL. 🙂
As always I’m in love with your work. You’re not afraid of colour. You are making me rethink buying this because you did such outstanding work. Glad your air was fixed. How unfortunate during stay cation.
WOW! WOW! and WOW!
So glad you are back to being a “cool” guy!!!!!
