Mary Fish invited Julie DiMatteo and me to be the guest speakers in the Pals monthly team meeting Mary hosts for all of her team members (I’m in Mary’s second level, so all of my direct team members are also a part of Mary’s Pals group). The assignment? To share some Halloween-themed 3D projects. Today I’m sharing one of the projects I created for this call – you can bet the other projects will soon be shared here.
Here’s a fun gift bag filled with a bag of gummy eyeballs:
What makes this treat bag so fun is that it showcases a variety of products that weren’t designed for Halloween – Christmas and general purpose stamps, dies and accessories are showcased with an end result that is VERY Halloween. Here’s a quick rundown of the products I used:
- Stars Treat Bags. The project starts with a sturdy Stars Treat Bag, a sophisticated bag designed for a Christmas treat (you can find these bags on page 35 of Stampin’ Up!’s July-December 2022 Mini Catalog). The stars are beautiful – or spooky – depending on the decorations around them.
- Watercolor Shapes. I randomly and loosely stamped the largest rectangle from the Watercolor Shapes stamp set with a mix of black and gray inks (I used Memento Tuxedo Black ink, Basic Gray and Smoky Slate). When I stamped each block, I painted over the block with a Water Painter to spread the ink around a bit.
- Christmas to Remember. Christmas to Remember is a wonderful sentiment set with lots of Christmas sayings. “Magic is in the air” definitely has a Christmas feeling, but I have always felt it also has a Halloween twist. I stamped the sentiment with Versamark, heat embossed it with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and snipped it with paper snips.
- Beautiful Trees Dies. a leafless tree always looks spooky against a bright moon. When I pulled this gorgeous tree from the Beauty of Tree Dies, I didn’t realize they had retired with the last catalog (the stamp set is still current). Too late to change that now that I’m writing this post…
- Layering Circles Dies. These dies are not designed for any occasion, but they are ALWAYS handy for a spooky moon.
I’ve included a link to all of these products at the base of this post.
The stars on this treat bag are cut out, so you can see right through them. I added a 3-1/4″ x 5″ panel of Mango Melody cardstock inside the bag to make sure the stars stood out on this project. They really stand out against the black backdrop.
The gummy eyeballs inside the treat box are packaged in a cellophane bag and tied off with a piece of the 1-1/2″ Metallic Mesh Ribbon that was originally designed to coordinate with Halloween projects (but is a gorgeous, all-purpose ribbon). I love the little pop of silver the ribbon adds to the project.
While Crushed Curry and Mango Melody play an important part of this project, I love the foundation of blacks and grays so much! It’s perfect for Halloween, but it’s also a sophisticated combination. If you like this mix of Smoky Slate, Basic Gray and Basic Black as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:
Stamps: Watercolor Shapes, Christmas to Remember Papers: Mango Melody, Crushed Curry, Basic Gray, Basic Black Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black, Basic Gray, Smoky Slate, Versamark Accessories: Stars Treat Bags, Beautiful Trees Dies (retired), Layering Circles Dies, 1-1/2″ Metallic Mesh Ribbon, White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Heat Tool, Cellophane Bags, Stampin’ Dimensionals

Such a fun project. (Can’t wait to see the others!) I love it when the packaging is so stellar that it almost makes you forget there’s something inside! Great job!
I recognize this one. I love the blocked background and scary details
I just love your project Brian. The tree die really caught my eye along with the beautiful moon. Well done. 🇨🇦
Oh goody ! Great idea for some TREATS that I will be giving out ! I like the star cut outs and great idea for the big yellow Halloween moon. Fun project ! Love it !
So fun! I remember seeing you at a business building event Mary had in Tucson. It was a while back.
Love your treat bag…so creative!
Beautiful treat bag…retiring those dies was a real shame! Glad I have them!
Brian, if kids only knew that a fun bag of eyeballs were waiting for them at the end of your cul-de-sac, you would have a bunch of trick-or-treaters.
I had a funny dream about you eating one of those eyeballs during the PALs video. I was actually chuckling in my sleep my husband said! Jeepers creepers where did you get those eyes was playing in the background in the dream and I was mumbling it too he said! I have some really vivid dreams. Loved ALL your treat holders you jazzed up on the video too. If you have any stray candy corn, send it my way…well maybe not so much since I am trying to be better with my diabetes. I would love to find those yucky eyeball candies to put in some treat holders I am making for a bunch of people (that way I would not eat them)!
Chris, Amazon has the candy and Walmart sells an eyeball gumball.
