Slender Candy Corn Treat Bags with 6″ x 8″ Cellophane Bags

A few months ago I happened upon a TikTok video that showed how an opened bag of potato chips can be re-sealed with a hot knife. The user heated a knife over a flame on the stove and immediately cut the top of the bag – while the hot knife cut the bag, it simultaneously sealed the bag. I didn’t run to the kitchen to re-seal my potato chips (that’s a lot of work when a clip achieves the same result), but I filed the handy tip away in the back of my head…I didn’t realize how handy it would be as I prepared Halloween treats for the Pals call this past week.

Today I’m going to share slender treat bags I created with Stampin’ Up!’s 6″ x 8″ Cellophane Bags, a hot knife and a cutting board. The knife cute right through the cellophane to yield smaller, candy-friendly bags. How fun!

Here’s a look at the treat holders I created with the 6″ x 8″ Cellophane Bags and a hot knife (and some other super-fun supplies):

Cellophane Bags resized with a heated knife, Stampin Up!, Brian King, Halloween treat bagsI cut bags in different sizes with random cuts with the knife. If I were to make multiples, I would use a metal ruler to get a cleaner, more precise cut.

These treat bags aren’t all about the bags, though – or the gross candy corns inside. I hope you checked out the fun tag toppers, too. Here’s a closer look at each (along with the product listing for each:

Treat Bag Topper, Stampin Up!, Brian King, Halloween treat bagsHere are the products used in this tag topper:

  • The Pumpkin Pie base is cropped with the Label Me Fancy Punch, scored across the width of the punched piece
  • I cropped a half-moon from Daffodil Delight with the Scary Silhouettes Dies
  • I stamped “Boo!” from the Scary Cute stamp set on Orchid Oasis cardstock and snipped it out with my paper snips
  • I tied a knot with the Black & White 1/4″ Gingham Ribbon – what a fun accent!
  • I tucked a spooky cat under the ribbon at the top of the tag. The cat is cropped with Basic Black cardstock using the Scary Silhouettes Dies.

  5. Thanks for the HOT KNIFE idea . How about Jelly Bellys if you don`t want to do the Candy Corn ? They have Halloween colors in those !! Ask me how I know (smack smack chew ) SMILE !!!
Cute ! Love theses Treat Holder ideas !

  6. I love these cute treat bags, Brian. Enjoy the day!

  7. Loved your presentation on the PALs call. This idea with the hot knife is great as I don’t always want to fill the bags with lots of items. Of course, your decorating of these treat holders were spot on. The “boo” though is simply a boo to you for not liking candy corn! Sorry, I think they are fun to look at and I do like to eat them. Of course, I am sure there are things that you like and I don’t care for-hence that makes the world go round. I wonder why I never dressed as candy corn as a kid for Halloween? Whatever….I didn’t get a lot of sleep last night so my punator part of my brain is on hold! Bottom line, love your projects!

  8. CUTE 🧙🏻‍♀️🎃 👻

  9. Great toppers for the cello bags. I never tried the hot knife trick but I will now! TFS

  10. Great idea! I have used this for sealing bags. I haven’t tried them with SU! bags tho.

  11. Those are really cute! But I’m still laughing at your description of candy corn! Too funny! (but I agree) 🙂

  12. Brian- This is brilliant & I will be filing this idea away!
