Be Inspired by Masking

It’s time for another Be Inspired Design Team Blog Hop – what fun! The Be Inspired Design Team is a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from all over the world who are excited to share our themed projects with you. I’m so honored to be a part of this group of talented stampers!

For today’s Be Inspired Blog Hop, we are creating projects inspired by masking techniques. Masking allows stampers to layer images together on a card or block out areas of a card. While you can use paper or sticky notes to mask an area on a card, Stampin’ Up!’s Masking Papers are a wonderful option – I used them to create a crisp, clean band on my card. If you aren’t starting the hop here, then you probably just popped over from the project shared by my talented friend Janneke Dijkstra-de Jong.

Merry Christmas

My card started with a 1-1/4″ strip of Stampin’ Up!’s Masking Paper that I placed across a piece of Basic White cardstock at an angle. The Masking Paper is thin with temporary stickiness on one side. I used a Blending Brush to apply Soft Sea Foam ink above and below the masked band on my card. Here’s my card:

Decorated with Happiness, Hope & Peace, Stampin Up!, Brian KingWith the pine branch and coordinating watercolor elements from the Decorated with Happiness stamp set, I created two branches with a mix of Soft Sea Foam, Pear Pizzazz and Garden Green. Half way through, I was ready to toss this in the garbage – it was not beautiful. As I kept adding color and layers to enhance the fullness of the branches, though, the pine tree branches came to life. Here’s a look at the Decorated with Happiness Bundle:

Decorated with Happiness Bundle, Stampin Up! 159711I couldn’t be happier with how the whimsical, bare branch came to life along the edges of the masked strip on my card. Here’s a closer look:

Decorated with Happiness, Hope & Peace, Stampin Up!, Brian King I auditioned several sentiments for my card, bu this “Merry Christmas” from the Hope & Peace stamp set was a perfect fit! I stamped it with Poppy Parade and then added a few starbursts in Soft Sea Foam for effect. I also added three Iridescent Pearl Jewels for a little shine. Here’s a look at the Hope & Peace stamp set, which is filled to the brim with gorgeous Christmas sentiments:

Hope & Peace, Stampin Up! 159773I showcase three gorgeous greens on this card that look great together. If you like this mix of Soft Sea Foam, Pear Pizzazz and Garden Green as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:

        • Brian I’m actually gonna try this technique…I was planning on doing it today but didn’t get to it….hoping to try it tomorrow. I have to make about 100 cards a month to donate so I’m always looking for simpler cards that still look really nice. I don’t have Decorated w Happiness so I’m gonna try something similar. Hopefully mine will turn out as good as yours!

    10. Once again, a TREEMENDOUS card! Gotta make like a tree and leave – going to paint a barn quilt thing again.
