I hosted my monthly Zoom call with my Paper Pumpkin customers yesterday. During our Pumpkin in the Fungeon call, I share some fun ideas with the items included in the monthly kit, and my customers share their brilliant ideas. I’m always impressed by what others are making and love to spend that time with my customers who participate. Sometimes we rush through our projects and then just chat for the rest of the time.
Today I’m sharing some alternative projects with February’s Sunshine & Smiles Kit – a menagerie of sweet, Spring animals in sweet, Spring settings. The colors are soft, and the characters are adorable. Before I share my alternatives, here’s a look at the finished projects (as designed) from the February 2023 Paper Pumpkin kit:
Here’s a look at all the goodies that came in this kit:

Alternative Projects
As always, I designed a handful of projects to share with my customers during our Pumpkin in the Fungeon call. I just couldn’t stop creating with these adorable characters – I’m sharing three of them with you today.
Diorama Treat Box
As soon as I saw the cutouts in this month’s kit, I knew I’d create a fun, little diorama gift box with one of the cutouts and the Kraft Gift Boxes from the 2022 Annual Catalog. I combined several elements from the kit to make this gift box:
The pastel rainbow inside the box is from the inside of one of the cards, and the layers on the top of the box are trimmed down a bit and popped up on the lid of the box. They perfectly fit over the window that’s already on the lid of the box. Phew! Here’s a look at the Kraft Gift Boxes, which measure 4-1/2″ x 6-5/8″ x 3/4″:
While there’s a stamp in the coordinating stamp set to fill in patterns on the kite, I colored my kite with Daffodil Delight and Balmy Blue Stampin’ Blends. I tied white twine around the top panel to make sure this gift box looks like a gift.
Friends
The little frog in the Sunshine & Smiles stamp set couldn’t be more adorable. I stamped him on Thick Basic White and colored him with my Parakeet Party Stampin’ Blends. There was a little set of dies that coordinate with this set (sold separately and sold out) – I cropped the frog with those dies. I layered elements from the kit on a Balmy Blue card base to make this sweet card:
The rainy background is framed with the diorama panel, and the clouds help to balance out the elements on the card.
My Sunshine
Let’s face it – we are all using a lot of Mango Melody these days – it’s featured in so many papers and accessories in the January-April 2023 Mini Catalog. I’ve used more Mango Melody over the past couple of months than I have since it was first introduced, and I’m happy about that.
I reached for a card from the Enjoy the Adventure Memories and More Cards. I trimmed it down a bit and used it as a focal panel on the card. I heat-embossed the sun with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder on the panel, added a sweet duck from the kit and accented it with three Mango Melody Self-Adhesive Milky Dots. Here’s my project:
How sweet is that duck? Here’s a look at the Enjoy the Adventure Memories & More Cards, new in the January-April 2023 Mini Catalog:
Bonus Cards
I cut one of the rainbow card panels in half and used it on two cards – one turned on its side with flowers and one with a little kite-flying turtle. The Mango Melody card base measures 3-1/5″ x 10″ (scored at 5″). Here’s a quick look at these projects:
