Be Inspired by Summer

It’s time for another Be Inspired Design Team Blog Hop – what fun! The Be Inspired Design Team is a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from all over the world who are excited to share our themed projects with you. I’m so honored to be a part of this group of talented stampers!

For today’s Be Inspired Blog Hop, we are creating projects inspired by Summer. It’s not hot in all parts of the world right now, but many are experiencing a horrific heat wave. I wanted to cool things off a bit with a beautiful sunset in gorgeous Stampin’ Up! colors. I hope you love what I’ve made. If you aren’t starting the hop here, then you probably just popped over from the project shared by my talented friend Janneke Dijkstra-de Jong.

Miss You

If you Google “sunset t-shirt,” you’ll find a variety of setting suns with beautiful, colorful stripes. These popular t-shirts feature the sun setting over the beach, in the mountains or over the Serengeti plains. I recreated a sunset from these shirts (I have one of my own) for today’s card but built a color combination of my own. What a fun project! Here’s my card for today’s Summer hop:

Hope You Know, Waves Dies, Brian King, Stampin Up!My simple card showcases dies from the Waves Dies (two flying birds and a perched pelican), a sweet sentiment from the Hope You Know stamps set (all of the sentiments in this set are great!) and a textured background with the Timeworn Type 3D Embossing Folder (it adds texture without taking away from the focal point of the card). All of these elements help to build this card, but it’s the circle at the center that deserves all the attention.

The large circle with beautiful stripes. I started with a 3-1/2″ square piece of Basic Black cardstock. I added 1/4″ strips of a variety of colors, spacing each out across the panel. I then cropped the stripes with the largest circle from the Stylish Shapes Dies. Here’s a closer look at the cardstock strips on my card:

A beautiful sunset with Stampin Up! colors, Brian KingStarting from the top, here are the colors I used to build my sunset: Cherry Cobbler, Real Red, Poppy Parade, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Crushed Curry, Pecan Pie, Pretty Peacock, Starry Sky and Night of Navy. I could have selected any number of colors for my sunset strips, but I couldn’t be happier with how this one turned out.

If you like a good sentiment set, please take another look at the Hope You Know stamp set – here’s a look at the great inside/outside sentiments in this set:

Hope You Know, Stampin Up!, 161409While the gorgeous colors of the sunset are at the heart of this card, the neutral tones of the tan and black background really allow these colors to shine – and they don’t look so bad together, either! If you like this combination of Crumb Cake, Pecan Pie and Basic Black as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:

I hope you like my project today! I hope you’ll continue the Be Inspired Design Team Blog Hop to see more projects by my talented friends – I’m sure you’ll love them. The next stop is my super-awesome friend, Emma Goddard. I’ve already seen her card, and I know you’re going to love it! Click on the banner below to continue through the hop:

I hope you’ll hop through the rest of the projects in this lineup. In case you get off-track at any point during the hop, here’s a listing of all the participants in this hop:
