Be Inspired by Color Theory – Monochromatic

It’s time for another Be Inspired Design Team Blog Hop – what fun! The Be Inspired Design Team is a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from all over the world who are excited to share our themed projects with you. I’m so honored to be a part of this group of talented stampers!

For today’s Be Inspired Blog Hop, we are creating projects inspired by … color theory (you can feel the love I have for this theme, right?!) We’ve all made monochromatic cards using the color theory explained on pages 132 and 133 of the new catalog – don’t miss that color wheel! My project showcases three simple projects with monochromatic pairings (and I love each of the sweet combinations).

If you aren’t starting the hop here, then you probably just popped over from the project shared by my friend Janneke Dijkstra-de Jong. Her work always makes me smile, so I trust you are in a good mood. 🙂

Friend for Life

I was so excited by the color theory theme that I made three cards to share with you today. Each is relatively simple (but sweet) and showcases a monochromatic color combination I love! I started with the watercolored pages of the Designer Series Paper, found that page on the color wheel (p. 132 of the Annual Catalog) and then selected a color positioned next to each. So happy with these combos! Here are my cards:

Friend for Life, Stampin Up!, Brian KingEach card features a die-cut element and a sentiment from the Friends for Life Bundle, new in Stampin’ Up!’s 2024 Annual Catalog. Here’s a closer look at this must-have bundle:

Friends for Life Bundle, Stampin Up!, 163365The focal base of each card features a watercolored panel from the Bright & Beautiful 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper – one in Fresh Freesia, one in Azure Afternoon and one in Lemon Lime Twist. Here’s a look at the pages and colors in this carried-forward pack of papers:

Bright & Beautiful Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up! 161449I want to give you a closer look at each of the cards and the monochromatic color combinations showcased on these cards. I framed each of the Designer Series Paper layers with Basic White cardstock and then a frame of the the monochromatic color that pairs with each focal panel.

Here’s a closer look at the first card:

Friend for Life, Stampin Up!, Brian King, 1 of 3 cardsI cropped two of the leaves with the Friends for Life Dies (one with Basic White and one with Granny Apple Green). The leaves are simple, and the white layer adds a sweet shadow under the green leaf. I stamped the sentiment with Granny Apple Green and added three Lemon Lime Twist gems from the Tinsel Gems Four-Pack. I love this combination of Lemon Lime Twist and Granny Apple Green:

Friend for Life, Stampin Up!, Brian King, 2 of 3 cardsI wasn’t so sure about the combination of Azure Afternoon and Misty Moonlight until I started assembling this card. I stamped “THANK YOU” with Misty Moonlight on Basic White cardstock and glued it to the card front. With Adhesive Sheets, I cropped the detailed “friend” and glued added it to a Basic White Frame. I popped up the completed sentiment with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals. I added three Misty Moonlight gems from the Tinsel Gems Three-Pack. Friend for Life, Stampin Up!, Brian King, 3 of 3 cardsWhile Fresh Freesia is a monochromatic with Bubble Bath (going softer), I love how it pairs with the new Petunia Pop (going darker)! I cropped the leafy heart directly into the watercolored paper (the leaves just cut through the paper. I cropped the heart frame with Petunia Pop cardstock and glued it down. I stamped a mix of sentiment in the Friends for Life stamp set to reach this combination. Here’s a look at the monochromatic combination of Fresh Freesia and Petunia Pop:
