Today is Labor Day in the United States. Labor Day was established in the late 1800’s to honor the hard work and achievements of America’s labor workers (who typically put in long hours at physically grueling, low-paying jobs). As Labor Day falls at the end of Summer in the United States, we celebrate the holiday with picnics and parades. If you are celebrating today, I hope it’s a wonderful day for you!
I hosted my monthly Zoom call with my Paper Pumpkin customers on Saturday afternoon. During our Pumpkin in the Fungeon call, I share some fun ideas with the items included in the monthly kit, and my customers share their brilliant ideas. I’m always impressed by what others are making and love to spend that time with my customers who participate. Sometimes we rush through our projects and then just chat for the rest of the time. Always such fun!
August’s Time for Cake kit is such fun! The designs celebrate birthdays with beautiful candles and a big slice of cake. This kit has something for everyone. Today I’m sharing three cards I made with August’s kit.
Alternative Projects
The Time for Cake Pumpkin Kit is designed with fun images and cheeky sentiments – but they are also very beautiful. Here are three of the alternative projects I whipped up to share with my group on our Pumpkin in the Fungeon call:
At first pass through the kit, I was a bit startled by the mix of colors – Night of Navy, Moody Mauve, Wild Wheat and Petal Pink are the primary colors that seem like unlikely friends. the more I played with the colors, though, the more I began to love them. The rose gold accents helped to pull them all together.
Hooray
The kit includes a wonderful, multi-paneled piece that unfolds with SO MANY candles – celebratory and fun. I cut the panel into pieces and used one of the panels to cover the front of this card:
I used the Petal Pink base from one of the card designs and framed the Night of Navy panel with Moody Mauve. The “Hooray” sentiment is a sticker from the kit, but Paper Pumpkin subscribers can also buy a die with this fun sentiment. To see more, click here.
I added three Night of Navy dots from the Opal Rounds Assortment for a little extra shine on my card.
Celebrate
I love this punched-out balloon from the kit.-the mix of colors and pattern are gorgeous! I love it so much that I designed an entire card around it. 🙂 Here’s the card I made to mix Moody Mauve and Wild Wheat on a festive project:
The kit comes with three balloons this size – I flipped one over and added Moody Mauve ink with a Blending Brush. I added sparkles (from the accompanying stamp set) all over the card background and added 2023-2025 In Color Opaque Sparkle Dots at the center of each.
Make a Wish
The third card features a GORGEOUS design from the inside of one of the envelopes in the kit – how could I NOT cut up this envelope to free this pattern? Here’s my fancy fold card:
The card base is a simple z-fold – a 4-/14″ x 11 piece of cardstock, scored at 5-1/2″ and 2-3/4″. I added the focal panel to the fold of the card. Here’s how the card opens:
While the “make a wish” sentiment from the Paper Pumpkin kit stamp set is designed to coordinate with birthday themes, it worked well from a beautiful card, too. I stamped the sentiment on a Petal Pink strip and then added a trio of butterflies from the Sketched Butterflies Dies. Here’s a look at the Sketched Butterflies Bundle, new in Stampin’ Up!’s 2024 Annual Catalog:
I added three Petal Pink Foiled Gems to the card front for a little more shimmer and a little more shine.
