Brian’s Week in Review: October 27, 2024

Brian's Week in ReviewIt’s Sunday – and that means it’s time to take a look back at the past week in my Week in Review post. In today’s post, I want to share a quick rundown of the week (for those who don’t follow me every day) and a little extra background (for those who already tune in daily).

An Update on My Personal News

Last week I shared my news that I’m soon retiring from my career job. For so many years, I’ve loved my job, but I’m excited by the opportunity to turn my focuses elsewhere. I’m grateful for the kinds words and support you’ve all shown me. Comments here and friendly emails have been such a boost for me this week. As I start to wrap up my work, I’m busier than ever, but I’m energized to get things bundled up and handed over so the next in line can take the baton and build on what I’ve created over the past 24 years. I always imagined retirement would be a thrilling and exciting celebration (and I hope I get there), but I’ll miss so much when I step away next Spring.

Monday

On Monday I shared a card I quickly pulled together at the end of a busy weekend. Here’s what I didn’t tell you – when I first received my goodies from the Holiday Mini Catalog, I cropped a Real Red “Christmas” and thought it would look great on this page of candy canes from the Iconic Celebrations 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper. For the past couple of months, I’ve had a scrap of this paper and the sentiment sitting on the edge of my craft table. I knew the paper was Cherry Cobbler and that I’d get to play with a different color scheme, but other projects jumped in line ahead of this one. Here’s the card I finally completed with these items:

Peaceful Season Bundle, Stampin Up!, Brian King, Christmas cardI was happy to complete this project and love the combination of Cherry Cobbler and Moody Mauve. If you’d like to read more about this project, CLICK HERE.

Tuesday

I hesitate to share this information, but I’m an open book. 🙂 Tuesday is the first day in 12-1/2 years that I didn’t launch a blog post. Through vacations, hospitalizations, power outages and a block hacking, I’ve managed to generate content every day.

On Monday night I completed a wonderful post to share with you on Tuesday morning, but I didn’t properly set it to go live. I was so busy on Tuesday that I didn’t realize it wasn’t live until really late on Tuesday (as I sat down to make a project for Wednesday’s post). Oopsies. It was already late in the evening, so I just scheduled it to go live on Wednesday. I was sad for a moment and then really, really happy.

Thanks for listening.

Wednesday

Wednesday’s post (the one I had planned for Tuesday) was one of my favorite kinds of post – more color combinations from a pack of papers. The Iconic Celebrations 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper is rich with warm colors. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in this paper:

Thursday

I inked up my Decorative Trees Bundle to build a card around one of the trees and a fun sentiment from the Christmas Labels Bundle. Here’s the card I shared:

Friday

The Decorative Trees Bundle didn’t make its way off my desk before I made three tags with the AMAZING dies. I shared those tags on Friday. Here’s a look at the tags I shared with you:

Saturday

On Saturday, I dipped into my pre-order products from the upcoming (November 5) Online Exclusives launch. The heart at the center of this card is part of a new suite you’re sure to love. The rest of the card features holiday-themed products from the Online Exclusives and 2024 Holiday Mini Catalog. Here’s the card I shared yesterday:

Coming Up This Week…

I’ll be making more projects this week with new products I’ve pre-ordered from the Online Exclusives that will be launching for customers November 5. I’m pretty sure there will be some Halloween goodies pepper in, too.

I hope you’ll come back.

Thanks for stopping by today!

  1. Congratulations on your upcoming retirement. I retired a little over 2 years ago. I liked my job but was tired of working. You will have a blast in your new “career”.

  2. Congratulations on your retirement…. But you are way too young!!! LOL 😝 However that will give you more time to create and share with all of us. 🥰

  3. I understand the reticence/ambivilance you feel for your upcoming changes. Good that the company is giving you a nice severance package- the universe is watching out for you and great, new things are around the corner. Should I say I’m happy we’ll get more of you? 😘

    • Dear Brian, congratulations on your retirement decision. Every one of us who have done so, knows, though it is very hard, It will be a very rewarding experience. You will have so much to do,You won’t even know how you got it done before.
I also want you to know how much I like your weekly summary of your posts. I never like to miss your daily post but if I do, this way, I can go back and see what it is that I’ve missed. It’s very very informative ,so I hope you keep doing this. You have so much creativity. Have a great day.

  4. I’m happy if you’re happy, about your retirement! There’s so many mixed emotions, especially the friends you make, some become more than just work friends, but these you continued to keep even after retirement. There are many perks also….. sleeping in, not having to worry about scheduling apps, taking time off if and when you want to. And of course, the best of all….. more time to work on cards!! Yay! I would be heartbroken if you said you’re going to retire from that!!! Say it isn’t so??
I’m also glad that you decided early enough so you have time to wind down and hopefully make the process less stressful. Best of luck in the days and weeks ahead, and I’m sure we’re ALL looking forward to seeing more of your creative side on Stampwithbrian!!
