My mom is a patient, loving woman. Since she introduced me to this world many, many years ago, Mom has been forced to put up with me. She has cared for me, raised me and taught me so much. As a repayment for her service, she gets one-on-one time with me to design and make her Christmas cards. Sounds like a fair trade, doesn’t it?
Mom loves Christmas trees, red bows and soft snowflakes for tags and wrapping papers during the Holidays, but she will (almost always) choose religious imagery for her Christmas card. She is drawn to Nativity sets or designs that harken back to the birth. I knew she’d pick the Shepherd’s Care stamp set this year – I didn’t even have to suggest it. When she arrived before Thanksgiving, we went to work to design her card – here’s what she made:
It’s beautiful, isn’t it?! The fancy fold card is a mix of the Shepherd’s Care stamp set and the Season of Elegance Specialty Designer Series Paper. They worked well together. Here’s a look at the beautiful Shepherd’s Care stamp set:
And here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the Season of Elegance Specialty Designer Series Paper (such GORGEOUS pages in these gold-foiled designs):
Mom’s card is built with a z-fold design on Pretty Peacock cardstock (5-1/2″ x 7-1/4″ scored at 1-1/4″ and 4-1/4″ with a little update I’ll explain in a bit). Here’s a look at the inside of Mom’s Christmas card (she signed them all and even started stuffing some of the envelopes before I could grab a photo):
We cut into the 1-1/4″ score line on the right side of the card front to leave a small tab on which the large Stylish Shapes circle could be mounted. This creates a circle that seems to float along the edge of the card panel – such a great way to showcase the paper behind it and the elements on the circle. Here’s a peek behind the circle on the front of the card:
Because I don’t have unlimited access to the Season of Elegance Specialty Designer Series Paper, Mom and I ran out of the Pretty Peacock page and needed to reach for a different design for the last several cards we made. Turns out the card is just as beautiful with the Basic Beige design of the paper – here’s a look at the card with the Basic Beige piece:
I’m so happy to share Mom’s Christmas card with you – I hope you love it as much as we enjoyed designing and pulling it together.

Thanks, Alaine! Hope your holidays are wonderful! ♥
Beautiful! Once again, we are reminded where your card making skills come from 😉. Wonderful colors and fabulous design. Really like this one and I always enjoy hearing what you and your Mom are creating together.
p.s. I needed a “reset” last week and took myself to town and the little 1931 theater to see “Wicked” after reading here that you enjoyed it. Thank you! It was delightful!
Mom doesn’t work with these products as frequently as I do, but I’m always impressed by her eye for it.
So glad you enjoyed the movie. It’s quite engaging, huh? We are taking my mother-in-law to see it tomorrow. 🙂
Love the layout and details, Miss Mary!
So glad you like it, Mary! ♥
Beautiful card! It’s wonderful you’re getting extra time with your Mom doing so much that you both love.
Thanks, Rene! We had a great time together – it’s always sad to see her leave. Glad you like her card!
Love Mom’s card!
Thanks for your kind comment, Terri! ♥
Great card by your mom and how special that you get to help her design hers. You are a great son.
Thank you so much, Shirl! ♥ ♥ ♥
Hi Brian
Your mom Mary’s card is so beautiful and elegant!
The DSP is stunning, so much so I preordered 2 packages, but have yet to use it!
What a great way to spend quality time together, by making cards!
Great job Mary!
It’s incredible paper, Dawn! I had a few packs of it and have used up all the Pretty Peacock pages. 🙂
I am a person of faith and have this set. For
Christmas, for encouragement, it is multi-purposed.
Love what Mrs. King did with the fold and paper
♥ Thank you so much for your kind words, Hope! I’m so happy with how her card came together – and I was happy to be a part of the process with her.
Absolutely beautiful cards. I love this stamp set. Your mom does a fabulous job creating cards and a son!
🙂 Thanks, Wendie! Once a card is designed, it’s sometimes easier for me to do all the cutting, but I let her do some of that and all the assembly on her own this time. ♥
❤️
Mary, your card is beautiful! I love the coloring, DSP, and thoughtful sentiment. Thanks, Brian, for highlighting this special card from your mother. Enjoy your day!
Happy to share her card, Hilda! She was really happy to get these addressed and in the mail. I know she’s happy with them. ♥
Wow! Love this card and the fold she used. And yes, that paper is great, so perfect for the holidays!!! Nice job, Miss Mary, that looks like a big undertaking!
There were SO MANY! Fun times, Cindie! Thanks for your comments. ♥
The King Design Aesthetic is very evident in this stunning card. (Where do I sign up to be on Miss Mary’s Christmas card list?!?) What a great collaborative effort; you two put a giant smile on my face and in my heart. 💕
Awww…I love that, Linda! Thanks so much. I appreciate you!
What a beautiful holiday card! Your
Mom
Is the best!
She’s OK… 🙂 Thanks, Linda!
What a beautiful card, Mary! You & Brian are very creative & collaborated to create a Christmas greeting that anyone would be honored to receive! Wishing you blessings at Christmas & throughout the coming year!
Just beautiful cards Ms. Mary! Wishing you and Big B a Happy Christmas!
Hope you are doing some fun Birthday celebrating this weekend Brian. Thinking of you!
Brian, I love-love-love this card. Because of this card I ordered the stamp set and paper. Question. Is there a die set that goes with Shepherds Care or did you fussy cut the star and shepherd?
Yes, Wicked was good. I enjoyed the movie too.
