I hosted my monthly Zoom call with my Paper Pumpkin customers last week. During our Pumpkin in the Fungeon call, I share some fun ideas with the items included in the monthly kit, and my customers share their brilliant ideas. I’m always impressed by what others are making and love to spend that time with my customers who participate. Sometimes we rush through our projects and then just chat for the rest of the time. This time I also shared some of the products I picked up in my demonstrator pre-order from the upcoming Mini Catalog and Sale-a-Bration brochure. Always such fun!
December’s Notes from the Heart kit offers a collection of beautiful, versatile cards and a must-have sentiment stamp set. The designs are perfect for many occasions. Today I’m sharing two alternative cards I made with December’s kit. I was happy to share these cards (along with one other card) during our Pumpkin in the Fungeon call – and I’m happy to share these with you today.
More About The Kit
The designed projects in December’s kit are really beautiful – perfect flora and fauna for nearly any occasion. These are great cards to build and have on hand – and then add a sentiment as the need arises. Here’s a look at the finished projects (as designed) from December’s Notes From the Heart Paper Pumpkin Kit:

Alternative Projects
While I adore the kit’s cards as designed, I wanted to play with the contents of the kit to make something a little different. Here’s a look at the cards I made with the contents of this kit:
Let’s take a closer look at each of these projects:
Happy Birthday
I was playing around with the scalloped card base and scored 1/2 of the left panel to make a z-fold card. While I was playing I decided to score the right side the same way to have a card base with three folds. Here’s how the card opens up:
I added four panels of a Pool Party pattern from the Shades & Hues Designer Series Paper, a December Special Release pack of papers that’s available now. The pale blue allows the rich berries and leaves to pop. I mounted the blackberries on a Pool Party Stylish Shapes circle and added a “Happy Birthday” sentiment. Here’s a closer look:
The Stylish Shapes circle appears to float along the inside fold of the card. The circle is attached to either side of the fold with two little strips of paper (I cropped one of the label punchouts from the kit to hold the circle to either side of the panel). Here’s a closer look at one side of the card:
The card folds up to a normal gatefold card to fit in an envelope and then pops open for a lovely display.

Get Well Soon
As soon as I saw the scalloped card bases in this month’s Paper Pumpkin Kit, I knew I wanted to cut a quarter panel out of the front of the card to build a Dutch door card. After I cropped the front of the card, I began to build the rest of the design – that’s where the real fun began. Here’s the second card I made with the Notes from the Heart Paper Pumpkin Kit:
While there’s no Pretty Peacock in the kit, I knew this pair of flowers would really stand out against a backdrop of Pretty Peacock. I reached for this panel from the Regal Winter Designer Series Paper (now in the Last Chance sale) and added it to the front of the card, securing it to the bottom fold with a Basic White border. I paired it with a piece of Pretty Peacock on the inside of the card. Here’s a look at how this card opens:
The scalloped panel on the inside of the card is part of the kit, too! It’s a sticker that can be added to the envelope front – I added mine to the inside of my card.
I layered the flowers on top and added the sentiment punchout with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I added three of the gems included in the kit. These are beautiful! These are simple updates to the designs in the kit, but I really love how this so effectively changes the output.
Refills Available
The kits are no longer available (one of the reasons to subscribe!), but the refills are currently in the Paper Pumpkin section of the online store (while supplies last). Check out all of the goodies that are available in the refill (everything but the stamp set and ink spot):
