I don’t work well with downtime – I feel unsettled and can always brainstorm a hundred things I could be doing. For most of my life, I’ve stayed busy by finding things to keep myself busy. On Thursday, I was admitted to the hospital for a scheduled surgery to repair a ventral hernia, and I’ve been trying to relax ever since. It’s hard for me to just sit. The doctor told me I would feel like I’d just completed 1,000 sit-ups. Of course I didn’t know what that would feel like, but now I think I do. My entire core is sore, which makes it difficult to sit or stand up or lay down or walk – but I’m managing. Before my appointment on Thursday, I wrote all of my posts for much of this week (and only logged in to add this little blurb). Just wanted to let you know I’m still here and doing well.
Today is Sunday – and that means it’s time to take a look back at the past week in my Week in Review post. In today’s post, I want to share a quick rundown of the week (for those who don’t follow me every day) and a little extra background (for those who already tune in daily). First, here’s a little behind-the-scenes of my week…
Monday
Last Monday was Martin Luther King Jr Day, a national holiday in the United States to honor Dr. King’s lifelong fight for civil rights. I pulled together a card with some incredible, new products to commemorate the day. Here’s the card I shared on Monday:
The Everyday Skies 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper is filled with gorgeous images, but this one felt so very peaceful for me. The “wishing” is pulled from the Delightful Wishes Dies, part of the Delightful Wishes Bundle. Together, with Azure Afternoon accents, they made a beautiful card for a beautiful day. Tuesday
On Tuesday, I shared a quick-and-easy card I made with one of the Mixed Media Florals Memories & More Cards – a fun panel of lady bugs in the pack of cards – and a pattern from the Mixed Media Florals Designer Series Paper. Here’s the card I shared with you on Tuesday:

Wednesday
On Tuesday night, I hosted my monthly team call with my InKing Royalty team. After we walked through the important topics I’d planned for the meeting, I played a bit. I pulled some products I’d been wanting to play with and laid out a plan for the card I’d finally make for my blog. It helped to talk through the steps with my team and valued the feedback they provided about the layers and color choices and other elements. It was fun! Here’s the card I finally made:
My card features elements from the Timeless Plaid 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper, Storybook Moments Specialty Designer Series Paper and Greetings for All Mix & Match Ephemera Pack. If you’d like to read more about the project or get a closer look at these products, CLICK HERE.
Thursday
You seemed to enjoy the card I shared on Wednesday, so I thought it would be fun to give you a little behind-the-scenes look at some of the options I played with while building the card.
This fun experiment was not unlike many of my card designing sessions – lots of options, updating layers and last-minute changes. If you’d like to read more, CLICK HERE.
Friday
As you now know, I needed to build up my blog posts for the weekend and the coming week. What better way to kick that off than with a Blog Candy Giveaway?! I launched a giveaway on Friday with some Valentine’s Day and Spring-themed goodies:
The Blog Candy Giveaway is still running – a winner will be announced tonight. It’s REALLY EASY to be entered in the drawing. If you’d like to leave a comment (or another comment) on that post, CLICK HERE.
Saturday
Yesterday I continued to promote the Blog Candy Giveaway with inspiration projects I previously shared with the Hearts of Elegance Bundle that is at the heart of the giveaway. This card happens to showcase the bundle and the Designer Series Paper that’s part of the Blog Candy Giveaway:

Hi Brian
I’m sending healing ❤️🩹 wishes after your surgery! As a retired , Operating Room Nurse I know how important it is to rest and follow their instructions for your best recovery!
I so enjoy your week in review!
Speedy recovery!
Hope you will be feeling better soon! My favorite card this week was Wednesday’s. I thought it so calm, peaceful and striking. Of course the heart card came in an oh so very close second.
I hope you feel better soon. I totally get you. My dad never let me sit idle which developed into me not being able to sit. Like you, it’s difficult.
I always enjoy your work and stay silent most of the time. You are an inspiration to me.
I sure hope you’ll be feeling like yourself again really soon. Praying for a quick recovery. Sending lots of hugs!
Feel better soon.
So good to hear you are responding well to surgery and sitting still…well maybe not so much being still! I have followed you for years. Your style often helps me with designing classes for several retirement homes. So thank you for being you❣
I would love to help you get to your Million Dollar Sales goal, but alas I am Canadian, nuff said!!
Take time to heal, not down your ideas and enjoy retirement!
That would be *jot* down your ideas. 😊
Sending special prayers for a quick, recovery, Brian! So very sorry that you have to go through this, but maybe there will be some small blessings to come from the opportunity you’ve been given to have to slow down a bit.
Take care!! Follow all of the advice given to you by your care team.
So glad all went well and you are home and recovering! I was delighted to receive two packages from you yesterday – paper shares and card class! Lots of gorgeousness!
Feel better soon!! They say that transitioning from work to retirement can take 18 months and now you’ve got surgical recovery to deal with too. So breathe deep and be gentle with yourself! Sending good thoughts for an easy recovery! 💝
Prayers for healing, Brian! Also, congratulations on your upcoming milestone of your million achievement with Stampin’ Up. That is so exciting! Can’t wait to hear more.
RELAX and listen to doctor’s orders! So excited for you and your million dollar achievement around the corner! I can’t wait to purchase your personally designed stamp set!!!
Get well soon! Hope your health improves quickly so that you can get back to normal asap. In the meantime, keep us posted so we can keep your spirits up.
Hi Brian, wishing you an easy, speedy recovery.
Your peace card just resonates with me especially during this crazy, difficult time.
Sending you soft virtual ((((((hugs))))))
Sending healing wishes your way!
Ahh, the universe is having her way with you. (And what is this 1,000 sit ups you speak of? Even when you can, just don’t! LOL!)
And I’m looking forward to seeing the stamp set with your name on it, too! Can’t wait to read more and I’m sure that we will rocket you over the top…..
Get well soon, Brian.
Wishing you a speedy recovery! Follow the dr’s orders & try not to overdo.
Feel better soon. Take time for yourself and allow yourself to heal. Sometimes that’s the hardest part for all of us.
