A Bright Christmas with Merry Monday

I’m this month’s Featured Designer for the Merry Monday Christmas Card Challenge.  Woo hoo!  All month-long, my Monday posts will be delayed a few hours so that I can post along with the Merry Monday team.  Yippee!  I’m really excited to be a part of this group – as if you couldn’t tell from my “woo hoo” and “yippee”.  🙂

This week’s challenge is to create a Christmas card with neon colors.  While Bermuda Bay wouldn’t be my first choice for a neon backdrop, this Designer Series Paper (more on that later) and beautiful sentiment (more on that later, too) are perfect for a beautiful, energy-popping neon card.  Here’s my project:

The Newborn King, Stampin' Up!, Brian King,MM129And here’s the Merry Monday challenge banner that inspired my card:

MM129Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • The Paper.  As with most Designer Series Papers, one side has images very specific to a holiday or theme while the other side of the paper has a very versatile pattern that can be used all-year-long.  Who would have ever thought that a Designer Series Paper called Motley Monsters would make a perfect backdrop for a gorgeous Christmas card?  Not I.  BUT…the moment I saw this Bermuda Bay page of paper with its beautiful stars, I knew I’d use it for a Christmas card.
  • The Font.  I have told you this before, but I am happy to tell you again – I am completely crazy for fonts.  I love when words are beautifully written – the pairing of a boldly printed word and a beautifully scripted makes my heart weak.  I don’t know why.  I’m a doodler, so I am almost always writing words and trying to define fonts I love.  I absolutely love the font on this stamp.  Love.  It.Vegas
  • The Paper-Font Connection.  The patterns of stars on this page and the fonts of the beautiful words are both a callback to the neon signs of the 1950’s – think of the script on the neon signs in front of old roadside diners or the recognizable features of the famous Las Vegas sign – both the starburst AND the combination of script and print are present there.  It doesn’t get any more neon than Las Vegas, does it?  While we don’t normally associate neon colors with such a beautiful, religious sentiment, I think it’s important to stretch our boundaries every once in a while – and I think all three elements come together perfectly here.

Stamp Sets:  The Newborn King  Papers:  Bermuda Bay, Strawberry Slush, Whisper White  Accessories:  2-1/2″ Circle punch, Circles Collection Framelits, Project Life Corner Rounder punch, White Stampin’ Emboss Power, Strawberry Slush Thick Baker’s Twine, Stampin Dimensionals

I hope you will pop over to the Merry Monday Christmas Card Challenge to check out the projects from the very-talented Design Team Members.  I’d LOVE for you to also play along with this week’s challenge.

Thanks for stopping by today!
