Three Things I Like – Amy Whelan

Amy Whelan is a member of my InKing Royalty Stampin’ Up! team.  When she showed up to our World Card Making Day event with this swap card, I immediately knew I would have to share it with you.  From time to time, I like to share projects from other designers that inspire me – and share three things I really like about their project.  Amy’s pine cone wreath is definitely worthy of a “Three Things I Like” blog post.  Here’s Amy’s delicious card:

Ornamental Pine, Endless Wishes, Stampin' Up!, by Amy WhelanAnd here are three things I really like about Amy’s card (and, yes, I forced myself to narrow my list to just three):

  • Ingenious Use of Pine Cone.  I can’t say enough about how much I love this pine cone wreath.  If I wrote “I love this pine cone wreath” 100 times, it still wouldn’t be enough – AND you would probably stop reading my blog post.  As such, I’ll say it that once.  To create this look, Amy masked the center with a punched circle.  Genius!  If you want to read more about how she created this look, click here.
  • Color Selection.  Pear Pizzazz and Lost Lagoon are a perfect color combination for the Holidays.  I might not have ever paired them together without inspiration from this year’s All is Calm Specialty Designer Series Paper, but BOY! do I love these colors together.  To add that blue into this wreath is simply marvelous.  If you like this color combination as much as I do, feel free to save this:Color Inspiration, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Allowance for White Space.  I love a crisp, clean card.  In my estimation, Amy left JUST the right amount of white around this wreath.  A lot of people are afraid of white space, but I think it can sing just as loudly and beautifully as the stamped images on a card.  The white space on the outside of the wreath also calls attention to the white space on the inside of the wreath – just really brings the entire card into focus.  Love it!

Amy recently started her blog, so you have a unique opportunity to read EVERYTHING she’s written and see EVERYTHING she’s posted.  Woo hoo!  If you would like to check out her work (and it’s all pretty great!), you can find her at amysinklings.com.  I hope you’ll pop over and say, “hi!”.  Please leave her a comment here or on her blog to let her know how much you love this project.
