PPA138 – Sweet Baby

It’s time for another PALS Paper Arts color challenge.  This time we are challenged with creating a card that uses these three colors: Daffodil Delight, Early Espresso, Cherry Cobbler.

I love this color combination but found it difficult to determine a theme.  I focused on one color (I chose Early Espresso) and build the other two colors around it.

Early Espresso is a rich, dark color that’s perfect for wood furniture.  I designed my card around the crib and side table in Little Additions, a baby-themed stamp set.  I hear you asking “baby-themed?! Why would you even use dark brown, red and bright yellow in a baby card?  Baby things are pale blue and pale pink.”  Not this rockin’ baby card:

This card took a lot of paper snipping, but I love the challenge.  I created a dark floor with Early Espresso, a soft rug with an oval punch and then set the furniture about the room to add dimension.  I created a yellow ceiling border with my the Adorning Accents Edgelits.

Here are a couple of tips:

  • The lamp is stamped once in Daffodil Delight and once in Cherry Cobbler, snipped into two pieces and then reassembled to one image. When snipping small pieces that need to be reassembled, leave a bit of paper on the base image that you can mask behind the piece that will be glued on top.  That makes assembly a lot easier.  You can see that I snipped the lamp base and left a little of the shade on top.  I snipped the entire lamp shade and now have a small piece to glue onto:
  •  When your adhesive rolls off the image and onto your work surface, you are left with remnants of adhesive that can inadvertantly cause a disaster (e.g., when another piece of stamped cardstock adheres to the leftover adhesive).  When working with little images like these, it’s nearly impossible to stay on the image.  Here’s a trick I learned at a recent shoebox swap: place your image on the used part of a sheet of Stampin’ Dimensionals (after the dimensionals have been removed).  The adhesive won’t stick to that glossy surface.  No fuss, no mess!

Stamp sets: Little Additions, Ittly Bitty Bits, Itty Bitty Banners  Paper: Daffodil Delight, Cherry Cobbler, Early Espresso, Very Vanilla  Inks: Early Espresso, Cherry Cobbler, Daffodil Delight  Accessories:  Bitty Banners Framelits, Boho Blossoms punch, Extra-large oval punch, Adorning Accents Edgelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals, 1/4″ circle punch (retired)

  2. I love this! It’s all about the carpet – anchors everything perfectly! Adorable!

    • Thanks, Linda! So glad you appreciate the rug. I played with every shape and color, every piercing pattern and texture to get that rug where I wanted it. I decided I needed a simple punch of Daffodil with the large oval punch (one of the few I don’t already have), and Pam Morris let me borrow hers. 🙂

  3. Beautiful card, Brian! I love that you walked away from the “usual” baby colors, so that really makes your card special {especially to me!}! Thanks for the great tip…I will use it!
