Today’s project features a stamp set that’s showcased in the new Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog, available August 1. This Christmas set isn’t just for the holidays!
A group of us got together to stamp at Katy’s this weekend. While I worked on a project with Perfectly Preserved (also new in the Holiday Catalog), Katy made a gorgeous 3-D project across the table from me with the new Ornament Keepsakes set. From my upside-down-perspective, I saw some very different designs in the shapes of this set.
You know I love a challenge, and I love to use images in ways they weren’t designed to be used. On this card, I flipped these ornate, traditional Christmas ornaments upside down and cast them into the summer sky as hot air balloons. Here’s my finished card:
I made this card for Mary Fish, my amazing up-up-line, who helped me to achieve some important goals this week. The sentiment “Above & Beyond…” continues inside the card with “…that’s where you always seem to go! Thanks so much.” There couldn’t be a more perfect sentiment for this card! I added some sparkle to the large balloon with some rhinestone jewels, popped it out with some Stampin’ Dimensionals and added clouds to the sky with the cupcake top from the Cupcake Builder Punch.
Helpful tips: I can’t send this card to Mary in an unadorned envelope. I glued a scrap piece of coordinating DSP to the back flap of the envelope and then trimmed around the edge with my paper snips, a trick i learned from Mary. It’s an easy way to add “that little something special” to any mailing.
Stamp sets: Ornament Keepsakes, One in a Million Paper: Tempting Turquoise, Pumpkin Pie, Brights Designer Series Paper Stack Ink: Tempting Turquoise, Pumpkin Pie, Early Espresso Accessories: Rhinestone Basic Jewels, Holiday Ornaments Framelits, Cupcake Builder Punch

What a creative spin Brian … I just love everything about this card!!!!
Thanks, Samantha! You are too kind.
Lucky, Mary! 🙂
Oh, Katy! You are so sweet. It was your “retreat” that inspired this in the first place…
I love it! What a way to get an extra use from those ornaments and make them a year-round set! Beautiful!
Thanks, Dawn. I love when I can “re-purpose” stuff to use all year long. 🙂
It is not very often that I am rendered speechless but this one did it! It is very worthy of Mary!
Pam, Why are you so good to me? I really appreciate your support and encouragement. The card I design for you will be bigger and better. 🙂
Great idea Brian-I have a nephew that will love this-he chases for a friend that has a balloon!
So glad you like it, Rose. It truly does make the traditional ornament quite fun and playful. 🙂
So clever to make balloons from this set – love it!
Once I saw the balloon in the ornament, I couldn’t think of a reason NOT to do it. I did all I could do to stay away from greens and reds so there’d be no association with Christmas. 🙂
Extremely creative, Brian! Also, I love that little touch on the envelope – adds pizzazz – but not using a whole lot of expensive DSP!!!
Brian, I absolutely LOVE THIS!!!! In a million years I never would have thought of this. Now I need that set. Thanks for sharing
So glad you like it! It IS a great set…all year round. 🙂
Great idea….great card! TFS!
Fabulous! I’m casing it right now! 🙂
