I am the proud uncle to four nephews and a niece. Garrison is the oldest, and today is his tenth birthday.
As I sat down to make a card for him over the weekend, I realized I don’t really have a lot of stamps that work well for a 10 year old boy. I reached for Make a Monster, but that’s really too young for a preteen (he’s excited to become a preteen at 10 years old, by the way). The design of Build a Cake seems too mature (whatever that means). The last thing I want is to be a lame uncle. As you can tell, I worked myself into a tizzy over this.
I decided to go to my newly uploaded MDS2+ and design this card, adding his name to the design for a special touch:
Admit it! You can’t even tell I printed this off, can you? The Pacific Point base and Real Red border are card stock. The rest is printed on my color printer.
I was really happy with my MDS experience. I’ve fiddled around with it before but not enough to complete a project and get it through the printer. I dropped a shadow under the balloons which give them a very real 3-D look. I added the “10” candles to the left balloon in celebration of his preteen day. All of the design elements here are a part of the MDS2+ download.
Happy 10th Birthday, Garrison!
Thanks for stopping by my blog today!
Happy Birthday Garrison! Enjoy your day!
Now that is a cool 10th birthday card! Good job, “Brain”! I think you nailed it 🙂
Thanks, Amy! The picture came out a little blurry, but it’s too late to recall the card. 🙂 It’s really simple and not uber-creative, but I think he’ll like seeing his name on it.
Great idea Brian. Love the card!!
I wondered how you got the name on there sooooo perfect, the wonders of MDS! Great card!
What a great card. Congratulations on delving into MDS. Your bravery to try new things is inspiring! Happy Birthday Garrison!
Great card, perfect for a young man and kids love to see their name on things. Thanks for sharing!
You did a great job!! Our oldest great nephew will be 12 in early November….I too struggle but often I try to do a card representing his current hobby….now it is remote control cars….yikes! Maybe I will start planning what to do now….lol!
Awesome card! Any uncle that would hand make a card for his nephew is ultra-cool in my book!
I agree with Traci….personalizing it makes it special…kids love seeing their names on things..and what a great card for a boy …a winner ….oh and Happy Birthday Garrison !
I am sure Garrison will think his uncle rock’s! Absolute great first finished printed MDS card! Way to go!!!!!!!!
I must admit, (being a rebel to MDS projects), this is an impressive card. I am sure he will be impressed as well – especially with seeing his name in print!
