Birds on a Wire – a Simple Hello

When I placed my first order from the 2012-2013 catalog, two stamp sets were at the top of my order: Flock Together and Hoop La La. I could think of a thousand things I was going to do with those sets. After two cards with Flock Together and one with Hoop La La, though, these sets have been passed over time and time again. My interests just went elsewhere. When I sat down to stamp this weekend, though, I forced myself to use them once again. A self-imposed challenge! That’s how this simple gem was created:
stampwithbrian.com - Birds on a Wire.jpgI don’t know what it is about birds. Some people love them. Some people despise them. I land right in the center of the Official Bird Passion scale. Birds are cute, but I’m not crazy in love with them. These birds, however, are freakin’ adorable!

Tips, Tricks and Reminders:

  • Draw a straight line.  I know, I know.  It sounds as simple as can be, but getting a clean, straight line can be quite a challenge.  For the wire on which my birds would rest (they deserve a break, too!). First, I lined up my Whisper White card stock along the grid lines of my Grid Paper. Next, I placed another piece of card stock on top of the Whisper White (here I used Very Vanilla), lining it up along another set of grids.  Using my Basic Gray Stampin’ Write Marker, I drew my line across the page.  Here’s the trick:  start off the page, dragging the marker off the other side of the page.  If you start right at the edge of the page, you’ll have a slight ink buildup.  Not pretty.

  • Think carefully about your colors.  This isn’t a baby card, but I used all the shades of colors you’d find in a traditional baby card.  Why?  Because I wanted my card to be a soft, clean note that engenders the same sweet “awwww” that I’d get from a sweet card with a onesie or a pair of baby feet.

  1. I’m in the “love the birds” group and these are great! The color combo is a nice change from the typical black you usually see for birds on a wire. Thanks for bringing these stamp sets to our attention.

  2. What an adorable Baby Card! —Gotcha! šŸ™‚

  3. woohoo! I have this set on order – should be here any day now!! šŸ˜€ And the “Take care” set with the branch & nest.
I am at the top end of the Official Bird Passion Scale – but then I have 11 Chickens & 5 Quail!……
    so just as well really.
Love your card! – that little pair weren’t the ones that sold the set to me – but now I can’t wait to stamp with those as well.

  4. OH, I LOVE BIRDS!! Love to hear them singing at the first light in the morning and also when the day is over, as they say good night to each other. I feed them all year.
Great card, Brian. The colors are really beautiful together. Clean and simple and fast too.

  5. I love love these two little birds…I have thought about ordering this stamp set just to get these polka dot cuties…i fell in love with that adorable fox (retired Fox and Friends ) and ordered that set just for that cutie . Your idea is a great one ..I was trying to think of how to use them and not have it a baby card. Thank you for how to draw the line from all of us straight line challenged . Be back later after I go check out that other set you mentioned .

  6. Adorable card! And thanks for throwing in the tip on the line. And BTW, I used my watercolor wonder crayons for the first time last night….great results!

  7. I had to grab my catalog to see these sets, still ones I would not order but I do like what you created and happy that you pushed yourself to use them!

  8. Late night entry…I looked at Hool La La….and I like it I think it`s funny that I never noticed it. I used to do lots of cross stitch…and the example in the picture above it is really cute . I just might have to put that on my future order list…I don`t have any like it…and I just noticed I put Hool instead of Hoop ..oh well it`s late ..
